The Census 2020 event will be held at Brookdale, 700 E. Euclid Ave, and is coordinated by Prospect Heights Ald. Kathleen Quinn (2nd) and hosted by Sales and Marketing Director of Brookdale Assisted Living, Kara O’Connor. Special guests ready to answer questions include U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider (D-10th) and State Rep. Mark Walker (D-53rd).

Census information will be available at Brookside, along with light refreshments and a raffle. Reservations for the event are required as space for the event is limited.

The United States Census Bureau is a federal agency responsible for producing data about people living in America and the economy. In the U.S. Constitution, in Article I, Section 2, it mandates the county counts the population every 10 years.

This headcount determines the number of seats states have in the U.S. House of Representatives and where, and how, to distribute federal funds. The Census Bureau is bound by law to keep answers strictly confidential and law ensures this private information is never published or used against you in court or by any government agency.

According to Prospect Heights’ website, “Each person missed on the census is equal to the city losing over $1,500 in state and federal funding. In our hard to count areas on the east side of the city, the number of missed residents could be in the thousands which is worth millions of dollars of lost revenue and resources for the city.”
