At Glenbrook South –
Glenbrook South 8, Niles West 6: Glenbrook South (18-12) and Niles West (14-15-1) swapped goals for the first half and GBS was able to take a 5-4 lead into half after a goal by Nick Schectman (1 goal). The game turned in favor of GBS in the third quarter as they outscored Niles West 3-1 to take an 8-5 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Niles West was able to shutout GBS in the fourth quarter, but only scored 1 goal as they fell short, 8-6. Glenbrook South was led by Cam Schulte (3 goals), Brendan Chang (2 goals), Matt Dale (1 goal) and Nate Cohen (1 goal). Niles West was led by Jacob Bobiles (2 goals), Albijon Purelku (1 goal), Francisco Ruiz (1 goal), Jake Cachila (1 goal) and Jack Shimabakura (1 goal). No. 4 GBS plays No. 1 Loyola in the sectional semifinals at 5 p.m. Friday, May 11.
Loyola Academy 15, Maine West 1: Loyola Academy (25-6) showed why they are the No. 1 team in the sectional as they led 14-0 at half and 15-0 after three quarters on their way to a commanding victory over a developing Maine West (12-16) team. Maine West avoided the shutout with a goal by Kevin Maciejewski with 4:52 remaining in the fourth quarter. Loyola was led by Tony Spallone (3 goals), John Merucci (3 goals), Kenny Sajnaj (2 goals), Tommy Barr (2 goals), Kevin Considine (2 goals ), Wil Edwards (1 goal), Jacob Bevan (1 goal) and Noah Zahn (1 goal). The Ramblers play No. 4 GBS in the sectional semifinals Friday in Glenview.
New Trier 14, Maine South 3: Maine South (13-12) was unable to hang with New Trier (16-13) to end their season in the sectional quarterfinals.

At Schaumburg –
Barrington 17, Palatine 5: The No. 8 seeded Pirates couldn’t pull off the upset over No. 1 Barrington to end their season in the sectional quarterfinals.
Fremd 12, Hersey 11 (3 OT): Derek Warnstedt (6 goals), Danny Konishi (2 goals), Sean Warner (2 goals) and Christian Zukowski (19 saves) led Fremd (16-11) in a thrilling overtime battle over Hersey (20-8). The Huskies ended their first season under new coach Marc Popovici with 20 wins and a runner-up finish in the MSL East (8-2 record).
Conant 15, Prospect 4: Conant (18-10-1) was able to best Prospect (12-14) to advance to the sectional semifinals against No. 3 St. Viator Friday, May 11.
St. Viator 12, Schaumburg 5: No. 3 seed St. Viator (12-12) was led by Michael Rubin (6 goals) in the sectional quarterfinal win over No. 6 Schaumburg (13-17) in a late game Wednesday. The Lions advance to the sectional semifinals against No. 2 Conant Friday, May 11.

At Buffalo Grove –
Stevenson 21, Deerfield 5: Stevenson (26-4), the defending state champions, made it look easy in a 21-5 win over Deerfield to advance to the sectional semifinals against No. 4 Libertyville (13-13-1) Friday, May 11.
Buffalo Grove 9, Highland Park 3: No. 2 Buffalo Grove was led by Daniel Koral (3 goals) in the sectional quarterfinal win over No. 7 Highland Park. The Bison (24-5) advance to the sectional semifinals Friday, May 11 against No. 3 Mundelein (14-15-1).

Thursday, May 10

 

Glenbrook South Sectional –

Glenbrook North 14, Maine West 5: Anastasiya Sahayda (2 goals) and Nina Martin (2 goals) led the way for Maine West (12-11-2, 4-1 CSL North), but the co-CSL North champions (along with Maine East and Glenbrook North) were not able to take down Glenbrook North (18-6) to end their playoffs in the first game for the second straight year.

Loyola Academy 21, Maine South 7: No. 1 seed Loyola (18-11) was led by Lauren Voss (6 goals) in the sectional quarterfinal win over No. 9 Maine South (10-15). The Hawks were led by Nicky Rafalo (4 goals) in the loss. Loyola plays No. 4 Glenbrook North in the sectional semifinals at 7 p.m. Friday, May 11.

New Trier 12, Niles West 2: Melissa Corlaciv (1 goal) and Irene Spiratos (1 goal) did all the scoring for No. 7 Niles West (10-14-1), but it wasn’t enough to top No. 2 New Trier (22-7).

Evanston 10, Glenbrook South 5: No. 6 seed Glenbrook South (11-18) was led by Nomun Saintur (2 goals), but they were unable to stop No. 3 Evanston (18-13) despite having the home advantage.

 

Buffalo Grove Sectional –

Stevenson 19, Wheeling 1: Lauren Maloney (3 goals), Claire Haas (2 goals), Eleanor Michaud (2 goals), Eileen Hoang (2 goals), Kelly Kempf (2 goals), Amelia Eastman (2 goals), Bella Greenspan (1 goal) and five others scored a goal apiece to lead Stevenson (30-1) to a dominating sectional quarterfinal win. Wheeling was led by Holly Schroeder (1 goal) in their final game of the season. Stevenson, the No. 1 seed and defending state champions, advance to the sectional semifinals Friday, May 11 against No. 5 seed Libertyville (8-20).

Buffalo Grove 7, Palatine 1: Buffalo Grove (12-15) ended the season for Palatine (2-26-1) as the Bison advanced to the sectional semifinals Friday, May 11 against No. 2 seed Mundelein (23-8).

 

Schaumburg Sectional –

Conant 10, St. Viator 5: Conant jumped out to a 7-2 lead at half and coasted to a 10-5 win over St. Viator in the sectional quarterfinals. Conant (27-4) was led by Olivia Olszewski (5 goals), Nia Tsoulos (2 goals, 6 drawn ejections), Gabi Konieczny (1 goal), Amy Rodriguez (1 goal), Sydney Arnold (1 goal) and Lauren Day (11 saves). St. Viator (11-15) was led by Zoe Green (2 goals), Beth Warren (1 goal), Julie Warren (1 goal) and Ritarose Battin (1 goal). The No. 1 seeded Cougars play in the sectionals semifinals Friday, May 11 against MSL West rival Fremd.

Fremd 8, Prospect 7: Prospect (12-13-2) made it to the final eight at state last year, but unfortunately couldn’t get out of the sectional quarterfinals with a tough loss to Fremd (14-16) who scored late with Lauren Streitmatter. The No. 5 seeded Vikings play No. 1 Conant in the sectional semifinals Friday, May 11.

Hersey 9, Schaumburg 4: Hersey (25-4) knocked off Schaumburg (12-13-1) to advance to the sectional semifinals with help from the Lindgren sisters. Annie Lindgren (4 goals) and Katie Lindgren (3 goals) combined for 7 of the 9 goals for the Huskies. Madison Burkhalter (1 goal) and Emily Born (1 goal) rounded out the scoring for Hersey. The Huskies, seeded No. 2, face No. 3 Barrington Friday, May 11 in the sectional semifinals.

Barrington 6, Elk Grove 5: Elk Grove (18-9) finished their season with the most wins in program history, but Barrington (17-8) pulled out the victory after shutting out the Grenadiers in the fourth quarter. Elk Grove led 3-2 at half and were tied 5-5 entering the fourth quarter, but Barrington scored a goal in the final quarter to earn the win. Elk Grove was led by Alyssa Bonilla (2 goals, 5 steals), Rachel Ford (1 goal, 1 assist, 5 steals), Kaylee Hatfield (1 goal, 2 assists, 2 steals), Gillian Guerra (1 goal, 1 steal), Abby Farmer (2 assists, 1 steal) and Melena Herrera (15 saves).

York Sectional –
York 17, Resurrection 5: The No. 7 seeded Bandits (6-22) couldn’t pull off the upset over No. 2 York to see their season end in the sectional quarterfinals. The Bandits had their best season in years and improved greatly over last year’s 1-23 record. After going 8-16 in 2013, the Bandits went a combined 4-68 from 2014-17, winning just one game a year for four straight seasons.
