Snow Didn’t Deter Vets From Hodges Park Ceremony

In spite of blustery winds, ice, snow and biting cold, a dozen members of the Park Ridge American Legion Post 247 gathered at the Legion’s Veterans monument in Hodges Park to pay their respects on Veterans Day.

They were joined by Mayor Marty Maloney, three other veterans and spouses, and staff members from several elected officials’ offices.

Commander Bob Mau called the ceremony to order.

Assistant Chaplain Steve Stevrakas gave the prayer. Mau gave a brief eulogy and comments on the history of Armistice Day.

The rifle team of Gary Warner and Martin Johanson rendered three rifle volleys, and trumpeter Richard Wacker sounded taps.

Legion members then departed for their traditional Veterans Day lunch.
