Seagrist Traded to Miami

Conant alum Patrick Seagrist made his Major League Soccer debut during the 2020 season after his No. 10 selection overall in the MLS Draft by the New York Red Bulls in January.

Unfortunately, professional sports is a rough business and you can be dealt a number of times in your career.

The Red Bulls declined an option in his contract for next year, along with Chris Lema, Ben Mines and Marc Rzatkowski on the last day of November.

Seagrist was traded Dec. 23 to Inter Miami in exchange for the Red Bulls third round draft pick. New York could receive up to $50,000 in general allocation money if performance-based incentives are met.

Seagrist started three games for the Red Bulls in his inaugural season, primarily playing left back. He played 246 minutes of action across his three starts for New York. He started the season opener March 1 and the second game March 7, before the league shut down a few months due to COVID-19. Once play resumed, Seagrist started the Aug. 29 game against New England, playing 66 minutes. He was not used the rest of the 15 games of the season.

Seagrist is one of seven defenders on the Miami roster as of Dec. 29.

Inter Miami is coached by Diego Alsonso. Inter Miami, which is co-owned by David Beckham, just wrapped its first season up in 2020. The team won 7 games, lost 13 and had 3 draws. They scored 25 goals and allowed 35 goals in the 23 games.

Inter Miami has a diverse roster, just like the rest of the league. Players originated from the United States, Venezuela, Argentina, Scotland, France, Mexico, Canada and Bolivia.

The team plays at the brand new Inter Miami CF Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, FL, which holds 18,000 people. The stadium hosted its first game ever July 18 between Miami’s reserve team, Fort Lauderdale CF, and Greenville Triumph SC in a USL League One match.

Seagrist played college soccer at Marquette, where he started 63 of the 65 games he played, accumulating 6 goals and 16 assists as a defender.

While he attended Conant as a student, he played club soccer for Sockers FC Academy.
