Rosemont Blotter: Felony Charges For Battery, Tagging, Drug Trafficking

The following reports are from the files of the Rosemont Public Safety Department. The Rosemont Journal publishes its “Police Blotter” every Wednesday.

Battery Charges

Clinton West. 27, a resident of the 5600 block of Vista Circle, Naperville, was arrested on a charge of domestic battery July 29. Police were called to the parking garage at 9550 Williams St., when security reportedly found him arguing with his wife. According to police reports, the wife allegedly pushed at him from the passenger side and he pushed back, with her head allegedly colliding with the passenger window. She was taken to the hospital to be checked. He was charged with misdemeanor battery, and has a court date Aug. 29 at Rolling Meadows Court House.

Orlando Bradley, 36, a resident of the 6800 block of S. Marshfield, Chicago, was arrested July 29 shortly before 9 p.m. after an incident at the 7 Eleven at 9501 Higgins. Bradley allegedly objected when the popcorn he had microwaved ended up burnt, so he argued with the clerk about paying $4 for his other items. Witnesses told police that when the clerk pulled the items back behind the counter, Bradley entered the employee-only area where the clerk was working, allegedly punching the clerk several times and pushing him to the ground. Bradley was located several blocks away, but fought police officers so hard as they tried to get him into a patrol car that one was injured. He is charged with a Class 4 Felony for resisting and obstructing a peace office, in addition to the battery of the clerk, a misdemeanor. He was sent to bond court; his next hearing is unavailable.

Defacement Charges

Owen M. Bertany, 19, a resident of the 3400 block of 10th Avenue, Seattle, WA, was arrested July 22 shortly after 4 a.m. for Class 3 criminal damage to property (government), Class 4 criminal defacement and criminal trespass to land. He is accused of illegally entering the River Road CTA yard in Rosemont to tag a CTA rapid transit car with graffiti. He was spotted by a CTA employee who alerted police. An officer spotted a suspicious car trying to leave a parking lot behind the Columbia Center office buildings at Gage. According to police reports, Bertany had spotted the rail yard while flying into Chicago to visit relatives and thought the cars would be a good place for graffiti. He allegedly admitted he has a history of tagging and likes to take photos of his work. He borrowed a car and obtained paint, he told police. He was confronted just as he was trying to record the work. The CTA estimates the damages at $3,120.89. After a bond hearing, he had an Aug. 7 court date at Rolling Meadows.

Drug Trafficking Charges

Ricky J. Johnson, 33, and Heather Rodriguez, 24, residents of the 10400 block of Carol Court, Rosemont, were arrested on multiple charges after a police search on an unrelated incident led to a reported discovery of various drugs in their apartment. Rodriguez allegedly offered officers a shortcut through the apartment, and agreed to let them search. Both were charged with Class 1 Felony manufacture and intent for delivery of a controlled substance; Class 3 Felony for manufacture and delivery of cannabis; Class 4 Felony possession of a controlled substance (3 grams cocaine), possession of cannabis (a total of 31 grams); and separate counts of possession of a Colt pistol and 23 rounds of ammunition for which they had no state FOID cards. Bottles of suspect codeine were sent for lab tests. A variety of materials used in narcotics packaging were documented. Rodriguez was arrested immediately. A warrant with a $75,000 bond to detain was issued for Johnson, who was taken into custody July 18 at his job. Court dates were unavailable.
