Rosemont Blotter: Driver Faces Many Charges For Speeding In ‘Courts’ Area

The following reports are from the files of the Rosemont Public Safety Department. The Rosemont Journal publishes its “Police Blotter” every Wednesday.

DUI Charge

Josef Z. Bonarek, 51, a resident of the 5000 block of Oriole Avenue, Harwood Heights, was arrested May 16 at 3:40 p.m. on the 5400 block of River Road. Bonarek’s black Honda CVR  had just pulled up next to a patrol officer, involved in solving another traffic stop, when the dispatch office reported a 911 call from motorists about the Honda driving erratically “all over the road.” A driver from behind the Honda started signaling the officer as well. The officer pulled across to block the Honda’s lane. Bonarek agreed to field sobriety tests but did not pass, and his blood alcohol tests were above the legal limit, police said. He was charged with Driving Under the Influence, DUI with a blood alcohol over .08 and improper lane usage. His court date will be June 25 at Rolling Meadows.

Possession Charges

Antonio Contrares-Chavez, 23, a resident of the 900 block of Old Willow Road, Prospect Heights, was arrested May 13 after he was caught allegedly speeding south on Chestnut Street shortly before 7 p.m. A patrol officer, responding to complaints that drivers were running stop signs in the “Courts” residential area north of the Allstate Arena, reportedly clocked Contrares-Chavez’s car at 11 miles over the speed limit. During a traffic stop he learned the driver had a Mexican ID card but no driver’s license or insurance. Police said Contrares-Chavez did not pass field sobriety tests for alcohol; two plastic bags with a total of 1 gram of powder testing as cocaine, were allegedly found in his possession. Class 1 Felony charges were approved for Aggravated Driving Under the Influence with a blood alcohol level over .08, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Additional charges ranged from DUI, driving without a license or without insurance, to speeding, improper lane usage, an improper turn at an intersection and squealing tires. His next court date will be June 1 at Rolling Meadows.

Retail Theft Charge

Shaun D. Simpson, 46, was arrested on a charge of felony retail theft May 20 at 5220 Fashion Outlet Way. Police were notified a theft allegedly took place at about 2:30 p.m. in the Solstice store. Security reported the suspects, Simpson and a companion, were in another store at the mall. Police reviewed store surveillance footage, which showed Simpson allegedly slipping a pair of sunglasses in his pocket and leaving without paying. In a search he was found to have a pair valued at $395 and was taken into custody. His court date will be June 18 at Rolling Meadows Court House.

Vincent E. Blackwell, 56, a resident of the 4200 block of Jackson Boulevard, Chicago, was arrested May 17, a few minutes after midnight, in the 10600 block of Higgins Road. His court date will be June 6 at Rolling Meadows.
