Road Rager Cracks Windshield; Thieves Crash Stolen Ford Fusion

Assault Charged

Steven Gaytan, 49, of 1629 Sycamore St., Des Plaines, was charged with aggravated assault at 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7. He was taken into custody at Town & Country Mobile Park, 815 E. Oakton St. Police did not release any additional details about the incident and the Journal & Topics Newspapers has filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the city for the report.

Road Rage Reported

A woman told police she was driving on Golf Road when she got into a traffic dispute with a woman driving a gray 2016 Chevrolet Equinox. Both vehicles had to stop for a red light at Mount Prospect Road at 3:58 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3. The other woman got out of the Equinox and threw an object at the victim’s car, striking and cracking the windshield.

Driving Charges

A 21-year-old woman from the 2300 block of Magnolia, Des Plaines, was charged with driving with a suspended driver’s license and no registration. Police stopped her at 1:24 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5 in the 1600 block of Lee Street.

Stolen Vehicles

Three men took a silver 2011 Ford Fusion from the 1700 block of Dexter Lane at 2:04 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10. A witness saw the men flee onto Everett Avenue. The vehicle had been left unlocked with the keys inside. Police responded and found the vehicle crashed into a tree in the 1700 block of Everett. Two of the same suspects were captured on surveillance video at another home in the 1700 block of Dexter Lane about two minutes earlier. At that house, they entered an unlocked Ford Ranger but did not take anything from it.

A blue 2017 Toyota Camry was taken from Advantage Car Rental, 2170 Mannheim Rd., before 7:56 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9. The keys had been left in the ignition.

Burglaries and Thefts

A man in his 20s waited in the vestibule of an apartment building in the 400 block of Western Avenue until he was able to go through the inner door when a delivery man entered. He then went through packages left in the common area and fled with a check for $1,500. Officers recovered video surveillance footage of the incident. The theft occurred between 6:52 and 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26.

A GPS and a speaker were taken from a 2012 Chevrolet Express in the 100 block of Touhy Court between 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7 and 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8.

A cellular telephone was taken from an unlocked black 2012 Ford Focus at Metropolitan Square between 6:45 and 11:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9.

Vandalism Reports

Someone rang the doorbell of a home in the 300 block of Oak Street at 1:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9. The resident did not get up to answer it. A short time later, he heard a knock then a loud crash at the door. The next morning he found the lower metal panel of the storm door was dislodged and broken out of the frame.

A glass panel next to a door was broken on a home in the 900 block of Center Street between 6 and 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6.

Someone spray-painted graffiti on the concrete in Central Park, 1555 Thacker St., before 7:37 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9.

Someone scratched body panels on a red 2003 BMW Z4 in the 600 block of Manor Court between 11 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2 and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3.

A window was broken at Mobil Gas, 795 Golf Rd., between 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7 and 6:15 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 8.
