Prospect Tops Stevenson; West Wins With Ease

Notre Dame’s Mahorcic Hits Triple-Double

Here is a look at some recent boys basketball action in the Journal-area:

Saturday, Dec. 16

Prospect 60, Stevenson 43: Prospect was led by David Swedura (16 points) and Tim Lussenhop (13 pts.) in a great non-conference win over Stevenson (6-4). The Patriots were led by Jackson Qualley (12 pts.) and Matthew Ambrose (11 pts., 3 rebounds, 3 assists).

Hinsdale South 48, Conant 45: Ryan Davis, who scored his 1,000th career point a week ago, led Conant with 23 points in a non-conference loss to Hinsdale South. Anthony Wachal chipped in 10 points for Conant. Hinsdale South’s Billy Durkin hit the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Maine South 49, Mount Carmel 28: Maine South (6-2) led 23-8 at half and never looked back in a 21-point win over Mount Carmel. The Hawks were led by Essam Hamwi (23 points, 3 steals), Filip Bulatovic (10 pts.), Tommy Gardiner (8 pts., 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks) and Grant Miller (8 pts., 8 rebounds).

Leyden 43, Taft 40: Leyden (4-4) escaped with a narrow win despite having 18 turnovers against Taft. Leading the Eagles were Ocean Johnson (14 points), Kyler Britten (11 pts., 5 assists) and Daquan Harris (9 pts.).

Palatine 57, Glenbard East 42: Johnny O’Shea scored 17 points to lead Palatine to a non-conference win over Glenbard East.

Friday, Dec. 15

Maine West 58, Maine East 39: Maine West (5-4) jumped out to a 28-14 lead at half and never looked back in a win over rival Maine East. Justin Scholler (11 points) and Jack Collins (10 pts.) led the Warriors in scoring. Ali Sabet (12 pts.) led Maine East (3-5) in the loss.

Maine South 59, Niles West 31:  Essam Hamwi (18 points), Tommy Gardiner (13 pts., 6 rebounds, 2 assists), Grant Miller (12 pts., 9 rebounds) and Filip Bulatovic (10 pts.) led a balanced scoring effort by the Hawks over Niles West. Michael George also had a nice game for the Hawks with 7 assists, 6 rebounds and 5 steals.

Prospect 62, Buffalo Grove 47: David Swedura (22 points), Tim Lussenhop (15 pts.) and Jon Kreidler (14 pts.) combined for 51 of Prospect’s 62 points to lead the Knights over Buffalo Grove. The Bison led 25-19 at half before the Knights offense exploded. Buffalo Grove was led by Tom Trieb (14 pts.), Mac Camardo (11 pts.) and Jack Vaselaney (11 pts.).

Notre Dame 69, Carmel 58: Dusan Mahorcic had a game to remember against Carmel as he scored 34 points to go with 22 rebounds and 10 blocks for a unique triple-double. Robert Pryor also contributed with 11 points for the Dons.

Stevenson 60, Libertyville 54: Stevenson (6-3, 2-2 in NSC) used a balanced scoring effort by Jackson Qualley (12 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists), Samvit Ram (13 pts., 3 assists), Luke Cheing (11 pts., 3 assists) and Matthew Ambrose (10 pts., 3 assists) to knock off Drew Peterson (25 pts., 10 rebounds) and Libertyville (5-4, 3-1).

Conant 48, Fremd 41: Conant got revenge over Fremd from last year on great games by Ryan Davis (22 points, 10 rebounds) and Ben Schols (16 pts., 4 assists).
