Prospect Heights PZBA Continues Lexington Homes Hearing Again

At the request of an attorney hired on behalf of residents, the Prospect Heights Planning & Zoning Board of Appeals (PZBA) decided last night (July 9) to continue a public hearing to July 30 for a proposed Lexington Homes project.

Hearings for the Lexington Homes application began June 25, where company Vice President Nate Wynsma presented plans for a subdivision development at 1001 and 999 Oak Ave.

The application includes a proposed plan for a 69-unit townhome subdivision, which would extend into parts of Muir Park, which currently belongs to the Prospect Heights Park District.

Although the park district has made no commitment to the development at this time, Executive Director Christina Ferraro said that the topic has appeared on the park board’s agenda since 2019. Ferraro told the Journal discussions will continue, but the park district is still waiting on finalized plans and the city’s decision regarding the application.

According to Building & Development Director Dan Peterson, in the time since the first hearing, residents in the area hired an attorney to advocate on their behalf.

The PZBA reopened the hearing at a special meeting Thursday night, offering residents the opportunity to give further public testimony and Lexington Homes a chance to respond to residents’ concerns. The residents’ attorney requested that the board continue the hearing at a later date, allowing time for the attorney to review the Lexington Homes application and materials, Peterson said.

No recommendation on the Lexington proposal was made by the PZBA.
