The Northbrook Symphony and Music Director Mina Zikri announced Robert Chen, the Chicago Symphony concertmaster, as artistic creative partner starting in the 2021-2022 season. Chen will perform as a soloist during the season, run a violin masterclass, advise with programming, and participate in the symphony’s community activities.
The Northbrook Symphony also announced its 42nd season for 2021-2022. The opening concert will be on Sunday, Oct. 10, presenting Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” featuring Robert Chen.
The remaining four concerts of the Northbrook Symphony, under the direction of Maestro Mina Zikri, are:
Nov. 7, 2021, French Flair presenting works by Ravel, Bizet, and Poulenc “Concerto for Two Pianos in D minor, FP61” featuring pianists Susan Merdinger and Steven Greene.
Feb. 27, 2022, Classical Treasures presenting works by Beethoven, Haydn, and Mozart
“Violin Concerto No.5 in A major, K.219” featuring violinist Jacqueline Audas, the North Shore Chamber Music Festival Arkady Fomin Scholarship recipient.
April 3, 2022, Happy (Belated) Birthday Beethoven presenting Beethoven’s Symphonies No. 3 and 4.
May 29, 2022, Russian Music Royalty presenting works of Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, and Prokofiev Violin Concerto “No. 1 in D major, Op. 19” featuring violinist Maya Anjali Buchanan.
The concerts will be performed at the Sheely Center for the Performing Arts in Northbrook. The Sheely Center has an upgraded air filtration system and air exchange process. Reduced capacity seating will be in place and all government safety rules and guidelines will be followed.
An internationally acclaimed conductor, Maestro Zikri is the founder and music director of the Oistrakh Symphony of Chicago, is the resident conductor of the Lira Ensemble, and is on the faculty of the Community Music Division of the DePaul University School of Music. Zikri frequently travels as assistant conductor to Daniel Barenboim with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra on their annual tours to major music festivals and concert halls world-wide.
