Niles Blotter: Officers Investigating Retail Theft Find Stolen Vehicle

Parental Responsibility Charge

A 36-year-old Park Ridge woman from the 1300 block of Bonita Drive was charged with violating parental responsibility at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, July 18. Police were called to PetSmart, 8287 W. Golf Road, for a report of a baby left in a vehicle. Officers found the child inside a vehicle parked in the fire lane. Store employees told police the baby had been screaming and crying for between 10 to 15 minutes. The suspect came out of the store and told the officer she had only been inside for a minute and then came back out to get her son. She was then cited.

Vehicle Theft Charged

James L. Hubbard, 54, of 8144 S. Eberhart Ave., Chicago, was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle at 7:22 a.m. Saturday, July 14. Police stopped him in the 7200 block of N. Milwaukee Avenue during an investigation of an alleged retail theft. During investigation, officers learned that the vehicle he was driving had been reported stolen.

Indecency Charged

A 21-year-old Des Plaines woman from the 9300 block of Bay Colony Drive and an 18-year-old Niles man were charged with indecency at 7:49 p.m. Friday, July 13. Police located them allegedly engaging in sexual activity in a vehicle parked in the 8400 block of W. Oak Avenue.

Disorderly Conduct Charged

A 56-year-old Evanston woman from the 1900 block of Sherman Avenue was charged with disorderly conduct at 4:42 p.m. Tuesday, July 17. She allegedly caused a disturbance at Walmart, 5630 W. Touhy Ave., yelling and swearing at employees. She then allegedly began taking off her clothing and was taken into custody.

Trespass Charged

Five Park Ridge boys, a 13-year-old, three 14-year-olds and a 15-year-old, were charged with criminal trespass to property at 9:08 p.m. Wednesday, July 18. Police located them on the roof of Emerson School, 8101 N. Cumberland Ave.

Drug Charges

A 19-year-old Chicago man from the 4300 block of N. Ashland Avenue was charged with possession of cannabis and tinted windows. Police stopped him at 2:22 a.m. Wednesday, July 18 in the 8700 block of N. Milwaukee Avenue for the alleged equipment violation. He was allegedly in possession of a suspected marijuana cigar.

DUI Charges

James Zaraza, 39, of the 4900 block of N. Kimball Avenue in Chicago, was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and possession of cannabis. He was stopped in the 7400 block of Croname Street at 10:31 p.m. Saturday, July 14. A glass jar containing suspected marijuana was allegedly recovered from the vehicle.

Michael Shaoul, 21, of the 7800 block of N. Nordica Avenue in Niles, was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, blood alcohol content more than .08 percent, and possession of drug paraphernalia at 1:54 a.m. Sunday, July 15. An officer found him allegedly sleeping in his running vehicle in the 7500 block of N. Harlem Avenue. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and later recorded more than the legal limit on a breath test. Police allegedly recovered a grinder, a pipe, and a package of bottle rockets from his vehicle.

Gerardo Garcia-Aguilar, 36, of the 8800 block of N. Root Street in Niles, was charged with aggravated driving while under the influence of alcohol, driving with a revoked driver’s license and failure to yield right of way while turning left. Police stopped him at 8:57 p.m. Tuesday, July 17 in the 8900 block of N. Greenwood Avenue for the alleged traffic violation. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and later was offered a breath test. Police did not report if he submitted to the test.

Retail Theft Charged

A 27-year-old Chicago woman from the 4700 block of S. Winchester Street and a 28-year-old Homer Glen woman from the 14400 block of S. Bell Street, were charged with petit theft at 3:03 p.m. Monday, July 16. They were stopped at Walmart, 5630 W. Touhy Ave., after they allegedly tried to leave without paying for merchandise valued at a total of $100.18. Police did not release the women’s names.

Mark D. Bartlett, 29, of the 9600 block of Greenwood Avenue in Des Plaines, was charged with retail theft and criminal trespass to property at 2:33 p.m. Tuesday, July 17. He was taken into custody at CVS Pharmacy, 9640 N. Milwaukee Ave., after he allegedly tried to leave without paying for beer valued at $9.99. Police did not explain what acts warranted the trespass charge.

Retail Theft Reported

Two women took ground beef and chocolate valued at a total of $10.47 from Fresh Farms, 5740 W. Touhy Ave. They tried to pay for it with a counterfeit $100 bill then fled without paying when the bill was not accepted. The incident occurred at 3:48 p.m. Thursday, July 12.

Four men took an unknown amount of clothing from Dick’s Sporting Goods, 5601 W. Touhy Ave., at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, July 12. Officers pursued them for a short distance but terminated the chase due to public safety concerns.

An unknown man took a 12-pack of beer from CVS Pharmacy, 9640 N. Milwaukee Ave., and fled without paying at 10:38 a.m. Tuesday, July 17.

Driving Charges

Jean C. Lara-Rodriguez, 25, of the 5000 block of S. Laflin Street in Chicago, was charged with driving with a suspended driver’s license and improper lane usage. He was pulled over at 2 a.m. Thursday, July 12 in the 9100 block of Golf Road.

Janekia J. Lewis, 31, of the 1800 block of S. Karlov Avenue in Chicago, was charged with driving with a suspended driver’s license at 4:39 p.m. Thursday, July 12. She was taken into custody after an alleged traffic crash in the 6700 block of N. Milwaukee Avenue. She was also served an outstanding warrant from DuPage County.

A 15-year-old Morton Grove boy was charged with no valid driver’s license, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to give aid or information. He allegedly struck a vehicle at Dempster Street and N. Ozark Avenue at an unreleased date and time and then fled the scene. He turned himself in to police at 3:09 p.m. Friday, July 13.

Robert A. Amanoaeil, 28, of the 8800 block of N. Root Street in Niles, was charged with no valid driver’s license and speeding. An officer stopped him on W. Golf Road near N. Dee Road at 4:24 a.m. Monday, July 16 for allegedly driving at 52 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Jose C. Oyola, 37, of the 800 block of Devon Street in Park Ridge, was charged with driving with a suspended driver’s license at 5:54 p.m. Tuesday, July 17. He was taken into custody after an alleged traffic crash in the 5600 block of W. Touhy Avenue.

Brendan Mejorada, 19, of the 8700 block of W. Sunset Road in Niles, was charged with speeding at 8:47 p.m. Tuesday, July 17. He was stopped in the 8500 block of W. Dempster Street for allegedly driving at 66 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Juan P. Corona, 37, of the 1600 block of N. 43rd Avenue in Stone Park, was charged with driving with a suspended driver’s license and operation of a motor vehicle while using a communication device. He was pulled over at 1:51 p.m. Wednesday, July 18 in the 7900 block of N. Milwaukee Avenue for the alleged safety violation. He was also served an outstanding warrant from LaGrange.

Maria T. Galicia-Ramirez, 46, of the 5800 block of Grace Street in Chicago, was charged with no valid driver’s license and failure to restrain a child. Police stopped her at 7:42 p.m. Wednesday, July 18 in the 7100 block of N. Milwaukee Avenue.

Burglary Reported

A saw was taken from a garage in the 7000 block of W. Niles Terrace between 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 11 and 6:40 a.m. Thursday, July 12.
