Niles Blotter: Gas Thief Drives Off With Nozzle In Tank

Assault Charged

Julie A. Habich, 24, of the 100 block of Jonathan Road in Lake Zurich, was charged with aggravated assault and criminal damage to property at 6:44 p.m. Thursday, July 5. She allegedly beat on an apartment door in the 8000 block of N. Oriole Avenue with a wrench and a screwdriver and threatened to “stab the children” if the door wasn’t opened.

Weapon Charge

James A. Lange, 35, of the 3700 block of S. Giles Avenue in Chicago, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia at 7:04 p.m. Friday, July 6. Police were investigating a car burglary at Home Depot, 8650 W. Dempster St. During a search of Lange’s vehicle, officers allegedly located brass knuckles, and a metal pipe.

Cruelty Charged

A 43-year-old Niles woman was charged with animal cruelty at Walmart, 5630 W. Touhy Ave., at 6:35 p.m. Sunday, July 8. Police located a large dog inside a vehicle with the windows open only two inches. The woman was located about 30 minutes later and cited. Police did not release her name.

Drug Charges

A 42-year-old Niles man was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of cannabis, and speeding at 1:33 a.m. Thursday, July 5. He was stopped for allegedly driving at 55 mph in a 35 mph zone in the 8500 block of N. Milwaukee Avenue. He was allegedly in possession of a plastic bag of suspected marijuana and a glass pipe. Police did not release the man’s name.

A 21-year-old Skokie man was charged with possession of cannabis and no rear registration plate light. An officer stopped him for the alleged lighting violation at 1:01 a.m. Saturday, July 7. He was allegedly in possession of a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana. Police did not release the man’s name.

An 18-year-old Des Plaines man was charged with possession of cannabis at 8:45 p.m. Sunday, July 8. Officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle in the 8800 block of W. Golf Road and found the man to allegedly be in possession of a plastic bag of suspected marijuana.

Marcos M. Lopez, 24, of the 4200 block of N. Francisco Avenue in Chicago, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia at 2:39 a.m. Tuesday, July 10. He was taken into custody during an investigation of a suspicious person at Jewel/Osco, 8730 W. Dempster St.

A 30-year-old Skokie man and a 35-year-old Des Plaines man were charged with possession of cannabis at 8:11 p.m. Wednesday, July 11. The Skokie man was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. They were taken into custody during an investigation of a suspicious vehicle in the 8800 block of W. Golf Road. They allegedly had suspected marijuana and a cannabis oil vaporizer.  Police did not release the men’s names.

A 19-year-old Niles man was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia at 10:41 p.m Wednesday, July 11. He was found to allegedly be in possession of suspected marijuana, a grinder, and a pipe during an investigation in the 9800 block of N. Canavan Court.

DUI Charges

Alexander B. Grezlik, 54, of the 2000 block of Grandview Drive in Johnsburg, IL, was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and blood alcohol content more than .08 percent at 11:04 p.m. Saturday, July 7. He was located allegedly slumped over the wheel of his vehicle at N. Milwaukee and W. Touhy avenues. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and later recorded more than the legal limit on a breath test.

Alcohol Charges

A 53-year-old Niles man was charged with public intoxication and cost of emergency services at 5:07 p.m. Wednesday, July 11. He was located in the 900 block of Civic Center Drive.

Retail Theft Charged

Kenneth E. Nykvist, 61, of the 3900 block of W. Fullerton Avenue in Chicago, was charged with retail theft at 7:38 p.m. Saturday, July 7.He was taken into custody at J.C. Penney in Golf Mill Mall after he allegedly tried to leave without paying for items valued at a total of $172.

William A. Claudio, 28, of the 3100 block of Keating Avenue in Chicago, was charged with retail theft at Walmart, 5630 W. Touhy Ave. He was stopped at 4:05 p.m. Sunday, July 8 after he allegedly tried to leave without paying for Bears leggings valued at $24.96.

Retail Theft Reported

An unknown man left Mobil, 8575 W. Dempster St., without paying for gasoline valued at $16.91 at 9:11 p.m. Friday, July 6. He also left the nozzle in his tank when he pulled away, breaking the hose.

An unknown man took a 12-pack of beer from CVS Pharmacy, 9640 N. Milwaukee Ave., without paying at 5:06 p.m. Friday, July 6.

Driving Charges

Jocelyn Munoz, 37, of the 8400 block of W. Dempster Street in Niles, was charged with driving with a suspended driver’s license and disobeying a traffic control sign. She was pulled over at 10:13 a.m. Thursday, July 5 on N. Cumberland Avenue at W. Bruce Drive.

Jamie A. Easter, 24, of the 1200 block of W. 46th Street in Chicago, was charged with driving with a suspended driver’s license at 2:46 p.m. Thursday, July 5. She was taken into custody after an alleged traffic crash in the 8500 block of W. Dempster Street.

Denna Cheetham, 35, of the 6500 block of N. Richmond Road in Chicago, was charged with driving with a suspended driver’s license after an alleged traffic crash at Touhy Avenue and Harts Road. Police apprehended him at 12:28 p.m. Wednesday, July 11.

Stolen Vehicle

A vehicle was taken from King Spa, 809 Civic Center Dr., between 11 p.m. Saturday, July 7 and 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 8.

Burglaries and Thefts

A window was broken and jewelry and luggage were taken from a vehicle at Assi Plaza, 8901 N. Milwaukee Ave., between 7:40 and 8:03 p.m. Thursday July 5. A tire was also punctured on the vehicle.

An unknown person took a wallet from a table at Chasers Bar, 9003 N. Milwaukee Ave., at 11:34 a.m. Friday, July 8. The wallet contained a cellular telephone, a driver’s license, and a debit card. Police recovered video surveillance footage of the incident.

Vandalism Reported

Someone set off fireworks inside a portable toilet, destroying it. The incident occurred at Jonquil Terrace Park in the 7700 block of Oriole Avenue at 11:17 p.m. Friday, July 6.
