Mount Prospect police arrested and charged two Chicago men each with one felony count of burglary and one misdemeanor count of criminal trespass to real property on Tuesday, July 16.

Police and K9 units from Mount Prospect and Arlington Heights responded to a 911 call of two people entering a construction site at 20 W. Northwest Highway, at approximately 8:14 p.m. The two departments set up a perimeter around the building.

One Mount Prospect K9 dog, Alex, found Renard Huston, 52-years-old, of 140 N. Mason Avenue in Chicago, allegedly “hiding from police” inside of the building. An Arlington Heights K9 dog, Vargo, found Fred D. Harris, 57-years-old, of 12119 S. Justine Street in Chicago, inside the building as well, police said.

The two men were both arrested, charged and brought to Rolling Meadows’ Cook County 3rd District Courthouse for a bond hearing the following day on July 17. Their bond was set at $30,000 each. The next court date for both men is scheduled for Aug. 9 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cook County 3rd District Courthouse in Rolling Meadows, Room 108.

Mount Prospect police remind the public that arrests and criminal charges are not evidence of guilt; all defendants are innocent until proven guilty in court.
