Mount Prospect Police Blotter: Woman Leaves After Using Fake $100 For Food

DUI CHARGE

Bryan Nelson, 26, of 2548 N. Mcvicker Ave., Chicago, was charged Jan. 6 with driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding and illegal lane usage. According to police, officers at approximately 11:55 p.m. were on routine patrol in the area of Elmhurst and Algonquin roads when they observed a red Toyota travel 57 mph in a 35 mph zone. Officers began following the vehicle and reported observing the vehicle swerve. A traffic stop was conducted and during questioning, officers allegedly detected the odor of alcoholic beverage on Nelson. He failed several standardized field sobriety tests and recorded a blood alcohol content of 0.110, police said.

LICENSE CHARGE

Mustafa Boyraz, 23, of 4144 N. Leavitt St., Chicago, was charged Jan. 18 with driving on a suspended license and disobeying a traffic control signal. According to police, officers at approximately 1:32 a.m. were at a red stop light on Algonquin Road at Elmhurst Road when they observed a blue Mitsubishi turn left onto Algonquin from Elmhurst while the light was still red. Officers initiated a traffic stop and reported that his license was suspended for financial reasons.

Odain D. Richards, 27, of 1321 Brummel, Evanston, was charged Jan. 16 with driving on a suspended license, no insurance and no rear registration plate light. According to police, officers at approximately 11:12 p.m. observed a tan Toyota traveling southeast Northwest Highway from Main Street with no rear registration plate light illuminating the registration. Officers conducted a traffic stop and reported that he did not have insurance and his license was suspended. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

SPEEDING CHARGE

Daisy Espino, 30, of 1434 S. Busse Rd., Mount Prospect, was charged Jan. 18 with speeding 26-34 mph over the speed limit. According to police, officers at 5:10 a.m. observed a 2011 Honda traveling eastbound on Central Road from Busse Road at 65 mph in a 35 mph zone. Officers conducted a traffic stop and during questioning, she reportedly told police she was unaware how fast she was going. She was issued a citation, police said.

FORGERY REPORT

Police at 4:59 p.m. Jan. 15 responded to Frankies, 720 E. Rand Rd., for a forgery report. The owner stated that an unknown female at 4:55 p.m. that day entered the establishment and ordered two hot dogs and a drink totaling $4.41. He said the woman paid with a $100 bill and received $95.60 in change. He said the woman left without her food and was last seen in a white Chevrolet sedan. It was determined a short time later that the bill was counterfeit and according to police, appeared to be a washed $10 bill and reprinted as $100.

RETAIL THEFT

Police at 3:36 p.m. Jan. 16 responded to Menards, 740 E. Rand Rd., for a delayed retail theft report. An employee told police a hammer drill valued at $599 was missing during an inventory check. Store security footage was reviewed and according to police, an unknown man at 8:33 p.m. Jan. 15 was seen selecting the drill off the shelf, placing it in his cart and leaving the store without paying for the item.

Police at approximately 5:40 p.m. Jan. 12 received a call from an employee at Walmart who stated he reviewed surveillance video footage and saw an unknown man at approximately 10:20 a.m. the day before entering the store and placing several streaming devices into a bin before putting the lid back on. He was seen proceeding to the front of the store and exiting without paying for the merchandise worth $1,671.70. The man was stopped in the parking lot, but entered a vehicle and left the scene in an unknown direction, police said.

BURGLARY REPORTS

Police at 3:13 p.m. Jan. 15 responded to 910 Hemlock Ln. for a burglary to motor vehicle report. A man told police someone entered his unlocked white 1998 Chevy Silverado and took about $10 worth of change. He said he left the car in the driveway around 5 p.m. Jan. 14 and noticed the driver side door slightly ajar around 11:45 a.m. Jan. 15.

Police at 10:12 a.m. Jan. 15 were dispatched to 1101 Hemlock Ln. for a burglary to vehicle report. A woman told police that between 7:30 p.m. Jan. 14 and 9 a.m. Jan. 15 someone entered her unlocked 2003 silver Toyota Corolla while it was parked in her driveway. She stated the glove box had been ransacked and the contents thrown about the vehicle. Approximately $5 left in the vehicle was missing.

Police at 10:10 a.m. Jan. 15 responded to a burglary to motor vehicle report at 1104 E. Linden Ln. A woman told police she was out of town, but learned through a neighborhood watch alert that someone had been seen on a Ring doorbell video entering vehicles in driveways in the area. She told police she checked her video and found that someone was seen entering her unlocked vehicle at 1:39 a.m. Police said the unknown person took $50 in cash.

Police at 9:06 a.m. Jan. 15 responded to a burglary to a motor vehicle at 401 E. Kensington Rd., which is a work site for a senior living facility. A man told police he took tools out of his van around 11 a.m. Jan. 14 and went inside to work until 3 p.m. He left other tools inside the van while he was working. When he returned around 3 p.m. he did not notice anything missing, but the following morning noticed two saws and two drills worth a total value of $3,800 were missing.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE

Police at 7:50 a.m. Jan. 18 responded to the area of 337 Hawthorne Cir. to attempt to locate a vehicle that may have been burglarized due to a complaint by an area landlord. A man told police that on Jan. 10, he was notified by his landlord that his black Dodge pickup truck had been broken into by an unknown offender. The report said 20 screwdrivers and 10 utility knives with a total value of $480 were taken from the vehicle.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

Police at approximately 6:46 a.m. Jan. 16 responded to 8 E. Berkshire Ln. for criminal damage to a vehicle report. A woman told police she parked her car, a 1998 Buick Century, in the driveway at approximately 5:30 p.m. the day before. She returned to the car at approximately 5:20 a.m. that day and found the rear window broken by an unknown offender. Damage was estimated at $500.

Police at 9:07 a.m. Jan. 11 responded to 823 Dresser Dr. for a criminal damage to vehicle report. A man stated he last drove his 1999 Ford F-250 about a week prior to moving it off the driveway in order to clear snow. He said he left the car parked in the driveway and locked. He found the driver’s side lock damaged and the door slightly open. The key ignition switch was broken and part of the mechanism was on the driver’s seat. He told police he found nothing missing inside.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Police at 9:28 a.m. Dec. 28 responded to the playground of St. Paul School, 18 S. School St., for a criminal damage to property report. A wooden child’s playhouse was on its side with extensive damage on the inside of the playground, police said. The office manager stated it would cost anywhere from $500-$1,000 to repair or possibly replace the house.

GRAFFITI REPORTS

Police at 12:05 p.m. Jan. 18 while conducting enforcement reportedly found graffiti on the west side of the 305 Hawthorn Cir. building. Officers attempted to contact the building owner and left a voicemail regarding the damage.  

Police at 9:33 p.m. Jan. 12 were dispatched to 601 Pickwick Ct. for a report of vandalism on the building. Officers arrived and observed black spray paint graffiti on the southwest corner of the building. The building owner told police they would have the graffiti removed immediately. 

Police at 4:13 p.m. Jan. 9 responded to 685 Pickwick Ct. for a report of graffiti on the south side of the building. The president of the homeowner’s association stated he went to the building around noon to clean a few things and observed the graffiti on the outside of the building. He told police he would have the graffiti removed as soon as possible. 

LOST & FOUND

Police Dec. 30 received a report from a man who stated he purchased a graphic drawing tablet on Dec. 23 from Amazon and that the package was delivered through UPS at 4:35 p.m. Dec. 29. It was discovered the package was missing at 4:45 p.m. The tablet was valued at $109.99. 

Police Dec. 7 received a report from a man who stated he lost his wallet near Portillos in Rolling Meadows around 10 p.m. Dec. 6. The wallet contained a credit card, car insurance, health insurance card, $20 in cash, his license and possibly his Social Security card.

Police Dec. 7 received a report from a man who stated that around 5 p.m. Dec. 4, he was at Home Depot, 350 E. Kensington Rd., when he lost his wallet sometime during his 40-minute visit. He said the wallet contained his license, a credit card and debit card, insurance card and about $120 in cash.

A woman Nov. 18 reported her passport and IDs were missing. She said she was visiting 706 Huntington Commons Rd. and her sister had sent her passport and IDs via FedEx on Oct. 14 to that address. She said she never received the package and checked the tracking, which stated her package was delivered at 4:52 p.m. Oct. 17. She was advised by FedEx the package was left by the door, police said. 

A man Nov. 17 reported his wallet was missing. He told police the last time he saw the wallet was at approximately 10 a.m. Nov. 15. He was unsure where or when he lost the wallet that contained a license, credit cards, ID card, and $50 in cash.

A man Nov. 12 reported that his rear license plate was missing. He told police he last saw the plate on the vehicle around July 1 while parked at the Turkish American Society of Chicago in Mount Prospect. He noticed it was missing Nov. 12 after the vehicle was towed to a mechanic. He said he was unsure if the plate was stolen or lost. 

A man at 10:03 a.m. Nov. 11 reported that his wallet was missing. He said he last had the wallet about three days prior and noticed it was missing the day before the report. The wallet value was estimated at $50 and contained a driver’s license, a debit card that he canceled, and a $90 gift card.

Police at 1:16 p.m. Oct. 24 responded to AT&T at 1 W. Rand Rd. for a public service. A man said he was in the store at approximately 12:50 p.m. for service on his phone. He set his Prada sunglasses with silver lenses down on the counter, left around 1:10 p.m. and realized the glasses were missing. He went back to the store but the glasses were not there, police said. At 6:30 p.m., police were notified that someone brought into the store a pair of sunglasses found in the parking lot under a car. The sunglasses matched the description and the man came to the station to pick up the item.

Police Oct. 22 found an abandoned bicycle at Busse Park, 111 N. Owen St., underneath the gazebo. Police checked the bike’s information in a database, but it did not come back stolen. Police inventoried the black Trek 820.

Police Sept. 21 received a report from a woman who stated her $200 wallet was missing, which contained a green card, two credit cards, two debit cards, and two Social Security cards. She believes she lost the wallet in the parking lot of Guzman Market, 1745 W. Algonquin Rd. She said she had it around 8:30 p.m. Sept. 18 and went back on Sept. 20, but no one had located the wallet.
