Mount Prospect Police Blotter: Store Loses $21,000 In Overnight Heist

DUI CHARGE

Robert Emerson, 75, of 4168 Cove Ln., Glenview, was charged Aug. 30 with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to reduce speed. According to police, officers at approximately 8:09 p.m. were on routine patrol when they observed a traffic crash in the westbound median lane of Golf Road west of Elmhurst Road. Police spoke with Emerson, who according to police, stated he rear ended a vehicle. Officers said his eyes appeared to be glassy, he was swaying back and forth and he told police he consumed alcoholic beverages prior to the crash. He failed standardized field sobriety tests and recorded a blood alcohol content of 0.091, police said. He was charged a short time later and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

LICENSE CHARGE

Francisco Javier Santana, 34, of 7353 N. Rogers Ave., Chicago, was charged Aug. 30 with driving without a valid license. According to police, officers at 11:26 p.m. were on patrol near Golf and Elmhurst roads when they observed a silver Honda change lanes from the curb lane to the median lane without using the turn signal. Officers conducted a traffic stop and during questioning, said he did not have a license. He was charged a short time later.

WARRANT ARREST

Dawid Koziar, 34, of 601 Huntington Commons Rd., Mount Prospect, was taken into custody Sept. 3 due to an outstanding warrant. According to police, officers at approximately 11:35 p.m. were dispatched to his home for a suspicious person report involving a male on the complainant’s balcony. Koziar reportedly told police he lived there and did not know why someone would call 911. His girlfriend told police she called 911 because she and Koziar had been arguing, police said. Police learned he had an outstanding warrant out of DuPage County and he was taken into custody a short time later.

BURGLARY REPORT

Police at approximately 3:58 a.m. Sept. 2 were conducting a business check of Crystal Court Plaza when they found the front glass door of Discoteca Los Paisanos, 1737 W. Algonquin Rd., broken out. Officers observed two cash registers opened and the contents removed. According to police, video surveillance footage showed three unknown men pull up to the business at 12:44 a.m. One man was seen breaking the front entry glass door and the other two men were seen entering the business and emptying the registers of approximately $21,000. They are then seen exiting the store and leaving the scene.

IDENTITY THEFT

Police Sept. 5 received a report from a man who stated that he got scammed on Zelle approximately 15 days prior. He told police he received a text notification from a blocked number stating his debit card would be canceled unless he verified his personal information. He said he mistakenly believed it was legitimate communication regarding his Zelle complaint so he provided his banking and Social Security information before realizing he was victimized by a phishing scam.

CUSTOMER/MANAGEMENT DISPUTE

Police at 11:43 a.m. Sept. 5 responded to Five Below, 1121 Mount Prospect Plaza, for a reported customer/management dispute. The general manager told police she wanted a customer, who was in the parking lot, banned from the store, because they were not wearing a face mask inside as required. The female customer told police she did not want to wear a mask inside. She was officially banned from the store a short time later.

THEFT REPORT

Police at approximately 1:37 p.m. Sept. 7 were dispatched to 505 Enterprise Dr. for a catalytic converter theft report. A man told police the catalytic converter was taken from his 2008 Toyota Prius. He parked his vehicle in front of 475 Enterprise between 3 a.m. and 10 p.m. Sept. 5 and returned to the car at 10 p.m. when he noticed the vehicle was making a loud noise. A mechanic told him that the catalytic converter had been taken.

Police at approximately 9:22 a.m. Sept. 1 were dispatched to 1145 Boxwood Dr. for a report of a catalytic converter theft. A man told police his catalytic converter was taken from his 2003 Honda minivan. He had not taken the vehicle to a mechanic and was basing the theft report on the van’s loud exhaust noise.

Police at 8:57 a.m. Sept. 1 responded to a theft of motor vehicle parts at 635 N. Maple Ct. A man told police he parked his vehicle on the street in front of his home at 4 p.m. the day before. When he returned at 8:45 a.m., he heard a loud noise coming from the engine area. He told police he looked under the vehicle and noticed the catalytic converter had been removed. Damage was estimated at $500.

Police at 12:25 p.m. Aug. 27 responded to 1715 Forest Cove Dr. for a theft of motor vehicle parts report. A woman stated she parked her 2009 Honda CR-V in the lot the day before at 9 p.m. She returned at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 27 and heard the car making a loud noise when she turned it on. The catalytic converter had been stolen, police said.

Police at 10:24 a.m. Aug. 27 responded to 2385 Lexington Dr. for a theft of a catalytic converter from a Honda CR-V. A man stated he parked the car in the apartment lot at 10:20 p.m. the day before and came back out at 5:55 a.m. Aug. 27. He started the vehicle and noticed the exhaust was loud. He drove to a mechanic where learned the catalytic converter was gone. Damage was estimated at $350.

Police Aug. 26 received a report from a woman who stated that her 2015 Toyota Prius had its catalytic converter stolen on Aug. 24 sometime between 5 and 9 p.m. at 1033 N. Elmhurst Rd. She told police her daughter was using the vehicle during that time as transportation from work and noticed the increased noise from the vehicle on her way home. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who said that the catalytic converter had been taken from the vehicle.

Police at 2:11 p.m. Aug. 23 were dispatched to a call at Thai Restaurant, 2310 S. Elmhurst Rd. A man stated he believed he lost his phone outside the restaurant in the parking lot around 11:50 a.m. He said he tracked the phone through different towns, with its last known location in Wheeling.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Police at 10:33 a.m. Sept. 3 responded to 6 N. Maple St. for a criminal damage to property report. A woman stated that at 9:30 p.m. the day before, she was inside her home and the front door was intact. She said her husband arrived home at 11:30 p.m. and found the front glass door shattered. It was unknown how the door was shattered.

Police at 4:15 p.m. Aug. 27 responded to John Jay Elementary School, 1835 Pheasant Tr., for a criminal damage to property report. Police observed damage to a slide in the playground, which appeared to be from a shotgun birdshot blast that embedded metal BB’s into the slide. The principal told police that it was brought to his attention Aug. 27 by school faculty that damage had occurred.
