Mount Prospect Police Blotter: Motorist Charged With DUI Almost Backs Into Squad Car

DUI CHARGE

Lisa Czarnecki, 53, of 214 S. 6th St., Waterford, WI, was charged Feb. 27 with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to yield turning left. According to police, officers at approximately 6:34 p.m. received a report of a woman stopping in the middle of the road, hitting curbs and swerving near Oakton Street and Mount Prospect Road. Officers a short time later located the vehicle, which turned into RecPlex, 420 W. Dempster St. During questioning, officers reported a strong scent of alcoholic beverage coming from Czarnecki’s breath. She reportedly failed standardized field sobriety tests and refused to perform a breath test. She was charged a short time later and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

Erik Hernandez, 28, of 53 Burgess Dr., Glendale Heights, was charged Feb. 26 with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane usage. According to police, officers at approximately 1:51 a.m. were on patrol near Busse and Algonquin roads when they observed a black Mercedes-Benz in the curb lane with both driver’s side tires crossing into the median lane and rapidly correcting back. Officers conducted a traffic stop and during questioning, officers reported the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from inside the vehicle and Hernandez. He reportedly failed standardized field sobriety tests and refused to perform a breath test. He was charged a short time later and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

Jared Conyers, 34, of 868 Webster Ln., Des Plaines, was charged Feb. 17 with driving under the influence of alcohol, no insurance, improper backing, failure to signal, and improper lane usage. According to police, officers at approximately 12:46 a.m. responded to Comcast, 350 N. Wolf Rd., for a possible DUI driver. It was reported that a white Ford Fusion was all over the roadway and had pulled into a parking lot. Officers reportedly observed the vehicle exit the parking lot and change into the median lane without signaling. It continued to cross the dashed center white line markings with both passenger side tires, police said. Officers conducted a traffic stop and said after the vehicle stopped, it began to back up. Officers activated their horns several times causing the vehicle to come to an abrupt stop. During questioning, officers reported an odor of alcohol emanating from inside the vehicle and his breath. He reportedly failed standardized field sobriety tests and refused to perform a breath test. He was charged a short time later and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

LICENSE CHARGE

Cameron Miller, 25, of 200 Minthaven Ct., Gurnee, was charged Feb. 27 with driving on a suspended license and speeding. According to police, officers at 12:13 a.m. were on patrol in the area of Euclid Avenue and Sycamore Lane when they observed a gray Toyota traveling 55 mph in a 40 mph zone. Officers conducted a traffic stop and reported that his license was suspended for financial violations. He was charged a short time later and the vehicle was left legally parked on a nearby street.

Kasandra Barrera, 22, of 4702 W. 12th Pl., Cicero, was charged Feb. 25 with driving with a suspended license and electronic communication device prohibited. According to police, officers at 10:44 a.m. while on patrol at Rand and Kensington roads waiting for a red light to turn green, noticed a motorist viewing a cell phone in their hand while driving. Police initiated a traffic stop and reported that her license was suspended. She was charged a short time later and the vehicle was left legally parked on a nearby street.

Bianca Rogers Doby, 28, of 1511 Cedarwood Ln., Wheeling, was charged Feb. 22 with driving on a suspended driver’s license and operating a motor vehicle with suspended registration. According to police, officers at 10:25 a.m. were on patrol at Elmhurst Road and Dempster Street when they observed a vehicle operating with no lights on while it was raining and only one brake light functioning. Officers conducted a traffic stop and reported that her license was suspended. She was charged a short time later and the vehicle was left legally parked in a nearby parking lot.

Mario Alvarez, 30, of 1005 Arnold Ct., Des Plaines, was charged Feb. 21 with driving while license suspended and operating a motor vehicle with one working headlamp. According to police, officers at approximately 2:14 a.m. were on patrol when they observed a 2006 Dodge Stratus near Elmhurst Road and Dempster Street with only one working headlamp. Police conducted a traffic stop and reported that his license was suspended out of Iowa. He was charged a short time later and a friend arrived to drive the vehicle away.

Sabrina Alinas, 24, of 1135 N. Boxwood Dr., Mount Prospect, was charged Feb. 20 with driving without a license and disobeying a stop sign. According to police, officers at approximately 2:25 p.m. were conducting stop sign violation enforcement at Wheeling Road and Dogwood Lane when they observed a beige-colored sports utility vehicle disobey the stop sign at the intersection. Officers conducted a traffic stop and reported that she did not have a license. She was charged a short time later and the vehicle was left legally parked.

Elisa Flores Sanchez, 33, of 650 E. Murray Ln., Des Plaines, was charged Feb. 15 with driving while license suspended and expired registration sticker. According to police, officers at approximately 5:44 p.m. were in the area of Elmhurst Road and Dempster Street when they observed a black Lexus with an expired registration sticker from last November. Police conducted a traffic stop and reported that her license was suspended for financial reasons. She was charged a short time later. The vehicle was left legally parked in a nearby parking lot.

Edgar Palomares-Diaz, 23, of 1309 Turtle Creek Dr., Palatine, was charged Feb. 10 with driving without a valid license and driving with one headlight. According to police, officers at approximately 2:05 a.m. were on routine patrol in the area of E. Rand Road and Blue Jay Court when they observed a gray Mazda 3 sedan traveling without one functioning headlight. Officers conducted a traffic stop and reported that he did not have a license, despite living in Illinois for 2-3 years. He was charged a short time later.

SPEEDING CHARGE

Aliakbar Moallem, 21, of 1386 Prospect Ave., Des Plaines, was charged Feb. 9 with speeding. According to police, officers at approximately 12:25 a.m. were on routine patrol in the area of Northwest Highway and Maple Street when they observed a white Hyundai traveling 60 mph in a 30 mph zone. Officers conducted a traffic stop and he was charged a short time later.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICES

Police Feb. 15 received a report from a woman who stated that on Feb. 10, she went online to check her bank account and observed 19 withdrawals from her bank account that she did not authorize, which she was told were due to cashed checks. According to police, it was determined by the bank that the same check was most likely washed by someone and was used approximately 7-8 times. Approximately $2,085 was taken from her account.

THEFT REPORTS

Police at approximately 2:15 p.m. Feb. 22 were assigned a theft call at RecPlex, 420 W. Dempster St., regarding two catalytic converters that had been stolen. Employees stated that two of the park district buses had their catalytic converters stolen. Total damage was estimated at $2,400.

Police at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 22 responded to 1530 W. Dempster St. for a theft report. A woman stated she was advised by a post office email that her package, which contained two shirts and one sweater with a total value of $59.50, was delivered and left at her building at 7:35 p.m. Feb. 16. She told police she went to pick up the package at 8:30 p.m. and found it was missing. 

Police at 9 a.m. Feb. 16 responded to 1503 W. Golf Rd. for a theft from motor vehicle report. A woman stated her Honda CR-V was parked on the street at 7 p.m. Feb. 14 before moved into the driveway the following day at 7 a.m. She noticed the exhaust was louder than normal, checked under the vehicle and found the catalytic converter was stolen.

RETAIL THEFT

Police at 3:51 p.m. Feb. 16 responded to Walmart, 930 Mount Prospect Plaza, for a delayed retail theft report. An employee told police that at approximately 6:24 p.m. Feb. 9, the alarm for the fire exit doors near the bicycles went off. He said he reviewed store footage and observed three unknown men each ride a mountain bike out the emergency exit door before fleeing the area. The bikes had a total value of $299.97.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Police at 12:03 p.m. Feb. 11 responded to 725 Huntington Commons Rd. for a criminal damage to property report. A man told police he observed two men attempting to break into the front door of the building with one using a pry tool. He told police that he observed the two men through surveillance video footage walk through the first level then up to the second floor and into the laundry room. They left out the front door and entered a vehicle before leaving the scene.

Police at 9:50 a.m. Feb. 4 responded to the parking garage at Randhurst Village for a graffiti report. Security told police that at approximately 7:30 a.m. they were on routine patrol of the mall grounds when they located graffiti on the first level of the mall parking garage. Mall officials said the graffiti would be washed off that day and damage was estimated at about $100.

Police at 1 p.m. Jan. 30 responded to 2024 W. Algonquin Rd. for a damage to property report. A man told police he parked his Infiniti in the parking lot overnight and found the vehicle’s front windshield was egged during that time. He said he had one possible offender, the driver of a vehicle he parked next to, who left a note for parking too close.

Police at 8:15 a.m. Jan. 24 responded to the intersection of Forest Avenue and Gregory Street for a missing stop sign. Officers located the stop sign from the southwest corner buried under several inches of fresh snow. There were no obvious signs of damage to the ground or the sign, and the fresh snow indicated it likely happened two days prior before the snow started falling. Public works was notified to have the stop sign placed back into the ground.

STOLEN PROPERTY

Police at 5:04 p.m. Feb. 22 responded to 1721 W. Golf Rd. for a theft of a license plate report. A man told police he and his wife own a silver 2011 Honda and his wife notified him that day that the rear license plate was missing from the vehicle. He told police he believed it was stolen sometime while parked in the parking lot for his business between 9 a.m. Feb. 10 and 10 a.m. that day.
