Mount Prospect’s weekly Sunday farmers market is sharing the crowd with Marché Français for a day on Sept. 8 to celebrate Mount Prospect’s French sister city, Sèvres.

Marché Français, or French Market, will be held adjacent to the weekly market in the commuter lot between Emerson Street and Maple from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The weekly farmers market will still be held in the commuter lot, the village’s Director of Communications Howard Kleinstein confirmed.

With the addition of the regular farmer’s market, Marché Français will have vendors selling French-themed items and goods.

Marché Français is sponsored by the Mount Prospect Sister Cities Commission, a group of 17 members appointed to the commission by the mayor with the board of trustees’ consent. Their mission is to “encourage and facilitate programs and exchanges between Mount Prospect and its sister city.”

Sèvres, France, is a southwest suburb of Paris. Mount Prospect entered into “sister city-ship” in May 2000 after a delegation visited Mount Prospect. The Mount Prospect Sister Cities Commission last traveled to the sister city in Sept. 2015. Mayor Arlene Juracek and Trustee William Grossi are to go to the sister city again this September.

Multiple attempts to contact the Mount Prospect Sister Cities Commission for further information were unsuccessful.
