Learning Center Approved For Wheeling Town Center

Dundee Road in Wheeling continued to evolve this week as a new tenant joined the under-construction Wheeling Town Center and an existing business won approval to expand.

The Learning Eperience, a nationwide chain of early education and daycare providers, was granted special use site plan approval from village trustees for a building in the Wheeling Town Center multi-use development at Dundee Road and Northgate Parkway. Its official address will be 343 W. Dundee Road.

According to a memorandum from Wheeling Community Development Director Andrew Jennings, The Learning Experience will be located east of City Works Eatery & Pour House and south of the parking lot in the northeast section of the Town Center. It will include 10,000 sq. ft. of indoor space and a 5,000 sq. ft. outdoor play area.

In order to make space, the Town Center site plan was modified to remove 13 parking spaces. A new drop-off and pick-up area was included. Dedicated spaces may also be available for peak pick-up times at the center.

Other Learning Experience locations are operating in the Sauganash, West Loop and Bucktown areas of Chicago, as well as in Lake Zurich, Gurnee and Bolingbrook. Centers offer care and classes for children age six weeks through 6 years of age, as well as after-school programs for children up to 8 years old. The Wheeling location is expected to be open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and employ 24 staff members.

Since construction began at the Town Center last year, several tenants have been announced, including City Works, Starbucks, CMX Movie Theater, Mia’s Cantina Mexican Restaurant, 312 Nails & Spa and Inland Bank.

East of the development, at 321 E. Dundee, trustees on Monday (Aug. 20) also approved plans for Lana’s Dazzling Desserts to double its space by expanding into 333 W. Dundee Road. Both addresses are located in the Riverside Plaza Shopping Center.

Lana’s opened in Wheeling 12 years ago and has since developed a successful business, said Jennings. With the expansion, seating at the restaurant will grow from 12 to 19 and two more employees will be added.
