Lake County Deputies Administer Naloxone To Save Palatine Man’s Life

The Lake County Sheriff’s Marine Unit at approximately 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11 was on boat patrol between Grass Lake and Lake Marie (located on the Chain O’ Lakes) when deputies said they observed a boat commit numerous violations. They stopped the boat and its operator, a 29-year-old male from Palatine, who was taken into custody for allegedly operating under the influence.

While being transported to the Marine Unit processing facility, the man (whose name has yet to be released) became unconscious and stopped breathing, police said.

The Marine Unit deputies quickly determined the man was likely suffering an opioid overdose. The deputies administered two doses of Naloxone to the male subject, which caused him to regain normal breathing and eventually regain consciousness.

Antioch Rescue arrived on scene and the man was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he is expected to recover. He is expected to be charged with operating under the influence and the incident remains under investigation, the sheriff’s office said.
