Is Trunco Out?

After Announcing 2019 Park Board Run, Candidate Says Final Decision By December

After announcing his intentions to run in the April 2019 Niles Park Board election, Jason Trucno issued a statement last week saying he might not run for that seat after all and would make a final decision by December.

“I may not run after all. Guess I’ll have to decide by December when paperwork is due to be turned in. As of right now I’m just a private citizen of Niles and not a public figure,” Trunco said in a Tuesday, June 12 email. “I will continue to stay involved and I will have no further comment on anything parks, village or potential campaign (related) at this time.”

He later added, “Right now the focus is on my family and professional career.”

Trunco first ran for park board in 2015 coming in third in a three-way race with Ray Czarnik and Pat Byrne. Trunco has maintained a “Jason Trunco for Niles Park District Commissioner” Facebook page since then. The last post to that page (as of Monday morning, June 18), was made Friday, June 8 when a Niles Journal story announcing Trunco’s candidacy was shared.

Interviewing Trunco for that June 6 story, the Journal told Trunco it would look into his background, as with other candidates who become public figures when running for office.

The Niles Park Board election does not take place until April 2, 2019.
