Infrastructure Improvements Worth $9 Million On Village Manager’s 2020 Radar

Dane Bragg

Improving the village road and sewer systems is a focus for Buffalo Grove Village Manager Dane Bragg heading into the new year.

Starting around May, Bragg said the village will begin $3.75 million in water and sewer upgrades and another $5.8 million in road improvements.

In the near future, motorists can expect a road-widening project to begin on Lake Cook Road between Raupp Boulevard and Hastings Lane. Work will also begin soon on a project at Brandywyn and Thompson.

Bragg said the first phase of the widening of Weiland Road will come to an end this year and the second phase of the project will begin. Additionally, the widening of Buffalo Grove Road from Half Day Road south to Aptakisic Road could also begin.

In total, approximately $18.2 million worth of road, water and sewer work is planned for 2020 in Buffalo Grove.

The village intends to resurface 18.9 miles of streets between now and 2022, with seven of those miles planned this year.

When major work begins on the Lake Cook Road widening project, Bragg said the goal is to keep as many commercial entrances open and functioning for motorists.

When it comes to new development in 2020, construction is expected to start this spring on the Link Crossing residential development near Didier Farms.

“We should see a fair number of homes under construction in 2020,” Bragg said. When completed in two to three years, between 400-500 new residents are expected to move into the village due to Link Crossing.

Demolition of Northwest Community Hospital’s office building at Lake Cook and Old McHenry roads is expected to begin this spring, with the construction of a new facility beginning a short time after that. Bragg said that project should be completed by late 2021.

Also this year, Bragg anticipates the village receiving one or two mixed-use development proposals for the Prairie View sub-area.

The village also intends to focus on prospective redevelopment possibilities at Town Center and filling the longtime vacancies of the former Rohrman car dealerships on Dundee Road.

Sometime this year, Bragg expects a discussion with the village board pertaining to the future of the public works facility across from village hall.

Bragg said the village has yet to successfully put together a deal for a new site for public works — a department in need of more space. He said even if the village can find a new site for public works, the likelihood of anything significant occurring this year is slim.

Internally, the village will offer residents more online services this year when it comes to permits and license applications. Also, residents will soon be able to access archived records on the village’s website.

“We will see implementation of a lot of the board’s planning over the last couple years,” Bragg said. “We will see construction and improvements, too, especially in infrastructure and potentially seeing other projects take off, which we are excited about.”
