Hearing Set For Next Month On Senior Housing Plans

Members of the Mount Prospect Planning & Zoning Commission are expected to hear plans May 24 for a three-story, 70-unit senior independent living facility to be constructed on two vacant acres across from Randhurst Village on Kensington Road.

Director of Community Development Bill Cooney said this development would be similar to what was constructed by the Alden Foundation at Kensington and Wolf roads a few years back.

Independent living facilities provide residents with convenient access to dining, medical care, entertainment and more. Hospitality services, such as housekeeping, meals and laundry may or may not be included in a monthly rent price, but are typically available.

Petitioner Jim Perlman of Perlmark Housing Group would construct the facility across from Home Depot on Kensington Road. The timetable on when construction would begin depends on when plans go through the village regulatory process and how and when the petitioner receives state and/or federal funding for construction.

During this process, the village will look at how residents of the development would be able to cross Kensington Road in a safe manner to get to Randhurst Village.

Several attempts by the Journal to contact Perlman, founder of Perlmark, for comment, were unsuccessful.
