Good Weather, Crowd, Make Summer Art Fair Memorable


2018 Glenview Art League Summer Fair was well attended and featured 72 artist’s unique pieces of artwork.

Seventy-two artists presented their unique pieces of artwork during the 65th Summer Art Fair hosted by the Glenview Art League. The event was held 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Lyon School, Lake and Waukegan, on July 28-29.

Good weather and an art-loving crowd made this year’s fair memorable and attracted new artists, said organizers. The following artists were recognized with awards:

Best of Show – Rollin Karg, a molten glass artisan from the Midwest known for his freeform and asymmetrical sculptures. He is known for his bold use of colors that will reflect one color from another.

Awards of Excellence were presented to:

Alex Deriy – who creates images with resin. He sold several pieces at the event.

Julie Martos – a jewelry maker who presented her work for the first time at the fair.

Igor Menaker – a  photographer who aims at capturing big city architecture in detail.

Merit Award:

Wayne Hershberger of Goshen, IN, is an artist and stone sculptor.

Deb Anderson –  An oil painter who focuses on still lifes, landscapes and portraits. She’s vice president of the league.

Seung Jae Kim – Born in South Korea, he is a Glenview artist known for his black and white photography. But he also has an exceptional way of capturing nature in landscapes.

Chris Loubsky – First time participating in the show, he exhibited his abstracts using acrylics.

People’s Choice Award was given to Amy Taylor of Glenview who creates hinged jewelry.

“Glenview’s Own” awards featured art league members exhibits, if they were not included in the fair: Carol Reagan of Glenview; Kittie Yohe of Northbrook; Marilyn Perry of Palatine who is secretary of the art league.

Numerous other artists presented works. Dan Davenport featured hammered aluminum from recycled pop cans. Shelly Lawler brought her seasonal garden photography on canvas and stunning images on pillows. Another artist brought wall hangings with detailed beading. Scholarship winner Natalie Poklop, a graduate of Glenbrook North High School, displayed her functional ceramics in a tent.

Members of the Glenview Art League reside in Glenview, Northbrook, Niles, Palatine, Des Plaines, Skokie, Morton Grove.
