Funeral Services Held For Mount Prospect Man, 18, Struck On Barrington Road

An 18-year-old Mount Prospect man walking in South Barrington was killed by a moving vehicle on Saturday, Aug. 25.

Shortly after he was struck on Barrington Road near Terra Vita Drive around 8:40 p.m. that night, Jake Brummitt was located by police and fire in the northbound lane of Barrington Road and was rushed to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates.

According to authorities, a Palatine man, 33, struck Brummitt with his 2010 Nissan Maxima. The driver of the vehicle, who remained on scene when personnel arrived, was not cited.

South Barrington police said Brummitt was attempting to cross Barrington Road not far from Willow Creek Community Church, but they were not sure why he was walking at that time of night, when it was considerably dark outside.

An autopsy conducted by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office stated Brummitt died of multiple injuries related to being struck by the vehicle.

According to a tweet by Prospect High School’s student newspaper The Prospector, Brummitt was a former student of the school.

On its Facebook page, Prospect Modge Lodge 660 says Brummitt was the son of Lodge member Ron Brummitt.

“He was a 3 sport all star at PHS, and an energetic, kind, wonderful young man,” the Moose Lodge post said.

He was survived by parents, Ron and Renee Brummitt (nee Grossman); sister, Allison Brummitt; grandparents, Leroy and Elaine Brummitt, and Rayona Olszewski; aunts and uncles, Jeff (Lilla) Brummitt, Melissa (Jason) Fox, Nina (Vince) Eslick and Daniel Grossman; cousins, Alyssa and Nicholas Brummitt and Katie Eslick; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Ronald Grossman and Patty and John Heishman.

A memorial service was held Friday (Aug. 31) at Friedrichs Funeral Home in Mount Prospect, followed by Mass on Saturday, Sept. 1 at St. Raymond de Penafort Church. Interment was private.
