Crews raced to the scene of a mobile home fire in Wheeling at approximately 3:45 p.m. Friday.

Firefighters from Wheeling and several area departments responded to 15 Brougham Dr. in the Whippletree Village subdivision between McHenry and Lake Cook roads.

Smoke from the fire could be seen nearly four miles south in Prospect Heights as fire crews rolled toward Wheeling’s northwest side.

While at approximately 4:45 p.m. it was still unknown how the fire started, at least one home appeared destroyed with those on each side heavily damaged. The fire site is across from the Whippletree outdoor pool.

According to Wheeling Battalion Chief Mark Menzel, no one was injured.

Brandon Flores told the Journal & Topics that six of his relatives lived inside the one home that was burned down. He said one of his relatives attempted to reenter the home to rescue the family’s pet dog, but it was unknown whether the dog survived.

Flores added family members would likely stay with their other family members in the park for the time being.
