Emergency Nurses Association Leaving Des Plaines

Emergency Nurses Association, an international professional organization based for the past 18 years at 915 Lee St. in Des Plaines, will move to Schaumburg later this summer. The building they have occupied was constructed in 1964 and was a regional headquarters for FW Woolworth’s department store.

According to Bridget Walsh, the association’s chief talent officer, ENA will move to its new location the former American Academy of Dermatology headquarters at 930 E. Woodfield Rd., Schaumburg, in July or August. In turn, the AAD has moved to a new location at O’Hare Gateway Office Plaza in Rosemont.

Renovation work, currently underway at the Woodfield site, will determine when the ENA moves, Walsh said. Updates of the building include creating more open spaces for collaborative work, she added.

Over 40,000 emergency room nurses throughout the world are members of the 48-year-old organization, which has 130 employees at its headquarters. After nearly two decades in Des Plaines, ENA is now outgrowing 915 Lee St. and the property does not have a large enough parking footprint to allow for expansion, according to city staff. At 44,000 sq. ft., the new ENA location is considerably larger than the 37,500 sq. ft. Lee Street building.

“It does give us space for growth,” said Walsh. “Des Plaines has been a great home for us, but we are very excited about the future as well.”

ENA, owners of the Des Plaines building, are selling the property for an asking price of $2.75 million.

Patrick Ainsworth of the city’s Community Development department said he has been in discussion with several potential buyers for the property. Built in 1964 and fully renovated in 1999, the two-level building has an elevator, HVAC updated in 2015, 91 parking spaces and office facility features such as an atrium and a lunch room.
