Elk Grove Names Familiar Face As New Boys Golf Coach

Elk Grove High School has named Brian Bucciarelli, current assistant boys golf coach, as the school’s new head boys golf coach, replacing Mike Meyer.
Elk Grove boys athletic director Terry Beyna is looking forward to the program under Bucciarelli’s leadership.
“Brian will bring a wealth of coaching experience, energy and passion to our boys golf program,” Beyna said. “I look forward to seeing our golfers grow their game under the direction of coach Bucciarelli.”
Beyna isn’t the only one excited as Bucciarelli, 36, is already looking forward to getting started.
“I am very excited to take over a program with so many experienced and talented young men,” Bucciarelli said. “I have worked with all of the athletes in the program in some capacity since they started at Elk Grove High School and look forward to helping them develop to reach their optimal potential on the golf course and in life. There will be a culture of leadership and accountability among our program. This team will embody hard work, a willingness to prepare, and commitment to a common goal. We are going to use practice time more effectively to develop our student athletes in the technical, tactical and mental aspects demanded by the sport. By maintaining these core values, these athletes will see immediate results in an always challenging MSL conference.”
Bucciarelli is as a special education teacher at Elk Grove High School where he is also the head boys track coach. In college, Bucciarelli played Division I baseball at Indiana University. He attended Fremd High School and competed on the 2000 state baseball team as one of the Vikings top players. He hit a state tournament tying record for doubles in a championship game (3rd place game) in Class AA. After college, Bucciarelli served as an assistant coach for football (2005-07) and baseball (2006-07) at Stevenson High School after volunteering for both in 2004. He is in his 10th year as a track coach.
“Coach Bucciarelli has taken numerous steps as an assistant coach to move the program forward and I’m excited to see his next steps now that he is the head coach,” Elk Grove assistant principal for student activities Bob Murphy said. “Our golf community will be excited to hear the news.”
Elk Grove went 1-10 last year in MSL action to tie Wheeling for last place in the conference. The Grenadiers lowest team score during conference play was 175 at Palatine Hills Sept. 14. Elk Grove shot 361 at the MSL championship to finish 12th. The JV Grenadiers went 2-9 last season.
