Elk Grove Village firefighters along with five other departments responded to an elevated alarm house fire in the 900 block of Kentucky Lane shortly after 2 p.m. today (Friday).

The call came in at 2:08 p.m. as a bedroom fire, but was elevated to a Code 4, or one step below a box alarm, when police arrived and saw smoke coming from the roof, Elk Grove Village Fire Battalion Chief Nathan Gac said. The fire was brought under control by about 2:40 p.m. Firefighters and investigators remained on the scene until after 3:30 p.m. overhauling the scene and investigating the cause.

There were no reported injuries. Gac said no one appeared to be home when the fire began.

The home suffered smoke and fire damage in the second floor bedroom where the fire was contained. Other parts of the second floor saw smoke damage. Gac said water damage to the first floor was very minor.

Gac said with the bedroom door closed, the fire was robbed of oxygen until a window failed from heat. Firefighters began attacked the fire from the exterior of the home, then moved a hose through the interior of the home to finish off the blaze from inside.

A total of 13 units with about 28 firefighters from Elk Grove Village, Roselle, Itasca, Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates responded to the fire.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
