Driver Faces Several Charges After Construction Worker Struck Near Rosemont

A Chicago man is facing several driving charges related to an incident that sent a construction worker to the hospital last Wednesday morning.

Kamau Brunson, 29, was charged with felony aggravated DUI, reckless driving, fleeing and eluding and several other citations, including a violation of Scott’s Law. Rosemont Sgt. Joe Balogh said the Rosemont Public Safety Department, in conjunction with the state’s attorney office, determined the appropriate charges.

He was brought before a judge Thursday, April 25 for a bond hearing. His bond was set for $100,000 on  D-bond.

At approximately 12:38 a.m. April 24, Rosemont police observed a vehicle traveling southbound on River Road at 63 mph in a 35 mph zone, according to a release from the public safety department. Police activated emergency lights in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver, Brunson, allegedly continued south on River River and onto eastbound I-190.

Brunson allegedly did not stop the vehicle and entered a construction zone. He allegedly struck multiple construction vehicles and a construction worker. The construction worker suffered a non-life threatening injury to a lower extremity, Balogh said, and was transported to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Brunson was also transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Illinois State Police processed the crash and Rosemont police conducted Brunson’s arrest, Balogh said. The Rosemont fire department also responded to the crash.
