District 212 Boys Cross Country Hosts Annual Thanksgiving Dinner

Leyden’s boys cross country team and the Service Club are hosting their sixth annual Thanksgiving Dinner for residents in financial hardships from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 in the cafeteria at East Leyden High School, 3400 Rose St., Franklin Park.

The event typically serves 150 people every year.

East Leyden campus science teacher and coach of the boys varsity cross country team, Brad Henning, said food and supplies are purchased with monetary donations provided by Leyden staff and faculty.

The donated money is given to Leyden Food Services to purchase and then cook the food. Student volunteers make decorations for the tables and serve the food. A craft and game table is available for young children to enjoy.

“This is our way of giving back to the community, and we’re anticipating a great turnout,” Henning says.

The menu will have turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, pumpkin pie, apple pie, ice cream, coffee, lemonade, tea and water.
