Delahanty

Kildeer Elementary School Dist. 96 board members Tuesday, April 11 named Lauren Delahanty as the next principal of Prairie Elementary School in Buffalo Grove.

Delahanty is no stranger to Dist. 96, where she has served as assistant principal at Twin Groves Middle School in Buffalo Grove since August 2021. In that position, she is responsible for the instruction, supervision and academic progression of more than 620 students in grades 6-8. She has also served as an instructional leader for teaching staff, instructional coaches and related service providers.

She started her career in education as a school psychologist/IEP team chairperson and has also worked with students with executive functioning impairments and supervised employees in this area. She served as a school psychologist and then Student Success coordinator in Zion before joining Dist. 96 in 2021.

“I am very proud and excited to be joining the Prairie community as the new principal Aug. 1,” Delahanty said. “I have truly enjoyed my time working with the students and families of Twin Groves and look forward to developing even more relationships in my new role at Prairie. In my time at Dist. 96, I have personally experienced the committed, passionate, and caring individuals who help to develop and inspire our students every day. I look forward to partnering with the students, families, and staff of Prairie Elementary School.”

Delahanty has a proven track record of success as a school leader, Supt. Katie Sheridan noted.

“Upon meeting her, families and students alike will quickly know her to be kind, positive, focused, and collaborative,” Sheridan said. “Ms. Delahanty is eager to dedicate her skills to the Prairie community.”

Delahanty succeeds Christine Pfaff, who joins the district office as principal on special assignment for next school year. In this capacity, she will provide her expertise on a variety of projects prior to her retirement in June 2024. Pfaff also starts her new position Aug. 1.
