Gemini Junior High School.

East Maine Elementary School Dist. 63 board members expect to name a new member to the school board at their Thursday, Oct. 4 meeting to replace resigning Angelo Scarsella of Des Plaines.

After announcing Scarsella’s resignation at the Aug. 9 school board meeting, district officials began accepting applications for the role. School board members recently discussed those applicants in a closed session meeting.

Scarsella’s term was set to end next spring. If the individual appointed wishes to remain on the board, they would need to run for the upcoming four-year term of office in the Tuesday, April 2 election. The period to begin circulating nominating petitions for that election began Tuesday, Sept. 18. Candidates are able to file those nominating petitions between Monday, Dec. 10 and Monday, Dec. 17. Those elected April 2 will be seated in May.

To run for school board, candidates must be at least 18 years old by Election Day, must have lived within the boundaries of the district for at least one year and not have a felony criminal conviction on their record. A candidate with a pardoned felony conviction may hold office.
