The River Trails School Dist. 26 Board of Education approved the hiring of Carie Cohen as the district’s assistant superintendent for student services.
Cohen will officially begin her duties on July 1 with a base salary of $130,000. She succeeds Jodi Megerle, who in May was named as the district’s next superintendent for retiring Supt. Nancy Wagner.
Since 2020, Cohen has served as director of student services for Lake Zurich Dist. 95. Prior to that, she spent three years as coordinator of special services for Hawthorn School Dist. 73.
She began her career as a special education teacher and has acted as a university supervisor for National Louis University. Cohen earned a doctorate degree in Disability Studies from National Louis University in 2011 and a Director of Special Education Endorsement in 2018.
“The district is fortunate to be adding Dr. Cohen to our administrative team,” Megerle said. “Her extensive experience and expertise will be a tremendous asset to our student services department and will help ensure we are continuing to meet the needs of River Trails’ diverse student body.”
The assistant superintendent for student services is responsible for oversight and development of various student programs, including special education and social-emotional services. As a part of the administration team, Cohen will also participate in the district’s long-range strategic planning.
