Democratic Race For 15th County Commissioner Too Close To Call

24 Votes Separate Raju, Morrison As Last Ballots Still Being Counted

In an outcome separated by just 24 votes as of Friday, March 23 — three days after the March 20 election — the race among two Democrats for the Cook County Board 15th District primary nod was still too close to call, Cook County Clerk David Orr’s office said.

Ravi Raju of South Barrington led Kevin Morrison of Elk Grove Village, 11,582 to 11,558 votes, or 50.05% to 49.05%. In Palatine Township, the two were separated by just 4 votes.

James Scalzitti, a spokesman for Orr, said he expected an update on the returns would come sometime today as absentee and provisional ballots were still being counted. Scalzitti said this was one of the closest election results he can recall.

Morrison won endorsements from Elk Grove Township Democratic Committeeman Ted Mason, Wheeling Township Democratic Committeeman Mark Walker and U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-9th).

Raju had the backing of Palatine Township Democratic Committeeman Matt Flamm, who state campaign disclosures show was his campaign fundraising committee chairman.

The winner of the 15th Democratic Primary will take on incumbent Republican Cook County Commissioner Tim Schneider in the November General Election.

The 15th includes parts of Elk Grove Village, Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect and Rolling Meadows.
