DeLeon To Head Up St. Viator Girls Soccer

St. Viator High School Athletic Director Jason Kuffel announced the school will promote Byron DeLeon to the position of head coach of the St. Viator girls varsity soccer team. This past summer, DeLeon was promoted to the position of head coach of the boys varsity soccer team after serving as the head coach of the boys JV soccer team as well as assistant coach of the boys varsity soccer team.

“Throughout his tenure as an assistant coach for the varsity program and head coach of JV teams at St. Viator, Byron has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to upholding the Viatorian values of this community,” said Kuffel. “Along with being an excellent coach and communicator, Byron continues to treat student-athletes with respect and concern, truly living out our mission to educate the entire student.”

DeLeon has previously coached for St. Patrick High School, Notre Dame High School for Girls, Mustangs FC, Lyons SC, Maine East High School, and has 16 years experience as the head coach of the International Tribe Soccer Club Boys U18 team.

“I’ve been coaching soccer for 20 years and I’m grateful to be so deeply integrated into the St. Viator soccer program,” DeLeon said. “My goal is not just to help shape these young men and women into skilled athletes but to help them build character and gain confidence on the field and in the classroom.”

DeLeon began his new role as the head coach of the boys varsity soccer team in the fall of the 2021-2022 school year and will take over as head coach of the girls varsity soccer team in the spring.

This past year, the school became a leader in the ESCC conference in its efforts to create new safety protocols that protect players and coaches from the spread of COVID-19.
