Walls are up for the new aquatics center and cafeteria/commons area additions at the East Leyden High School campus in Franklin Park.

Both building projects are part of the $80 million renovation project at East Leyden and West Leyden High School in Northlake.

SPM Architects and construction teams broke ground in May on the former site of East Leyden’s Dodge Field, where the new buildings will be located. A time lapse video on the Leyden Township High School Dist. 212 website shows steady progress on the structures, with wall foundations going up in late May and early June. By Wednesday (Aug. 1), a majority of the exterior walls were in place.

In preparation for the new spaces, some classrooms and the former woodshop space will be moved to different areas of the school.

When completed, the new cafeteria will include a mezzanine level overlooking both the dining area and the pool, as well as drop-down screens. Construction is expected to be complete by next school year.
