A chair reportedly thrown from a third-floor railing into a crowded stairwell below injured one student at Attea Middle School, Glenview Dist. 34 officials confirmed this week.
Glenview paramedics transported the injured student to an area hospital and conducted an investigation of the incident that occurred at about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, Cathy Kedjidjian, Dist. 34 director of communications & strategic planning, told the Journal. A letter to parents was also sent out by the district confirming the incident.
Glenview Fire Chief Tony DeRose said the female student was transported by paramedics to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with non-life-threatening injuries.
“We will continue our investigation district-wide to determine if any additional structural safety enhancements or new processes or procedures need to be implemented,” the letter to parents sent Thursday, Sept. 30 said. “We want to assure students — and you — that children are safe at school, protected by teachers and staff who care about them. At Attea, school psychologists and social workers from across the district came together to provide support for students and staff.”
Kedjidjian said she understood the chair was thrown from the third floor overlooking a stairwell, striking a student on the stairs between the first and second floors.
“The family of the injured child has asked for privacy outside of updates to the Attea school community. Please know that in so many ways, they are being supported by school administration and staff, as well as by the PTA and other parent volunteers who immediately stepped up to offer help,” the letter states.
Kedjidjian would not say whether Glenview police became involved in the incident, adding, “It is a disciplinary matter.” Kedjidjian and the letter to parents said there are federal laws that prohibit disclosures of student information.

After he gets out of Juvee (hopefully he ends up there)–he should be in last chance school for at least a year.
If not its likely he ends up wearing a trench coat to high school one day.
Gotta weed the sociopaths out so the rest can thrive.
