Buffalo Grove Rotary Seeks Nominations For Bill Reid Community Service Award

Nominations are being sought by the Buffalo Grove Rotary Club for the Bill Reid Community Service Award.

Nominees should demonstrate a strong commitment to the Buffalo Grove community, similar to that of Bill Reid, who was a longtime resident and village trustee, and affectionately known as “Mr. Buffalo Grove.” Reid passed away in 2000 and the award was established in his honor, first given out in 2001.

In addition to serving as an elected official, Reid was a charter member of the Buffalo Grove Rotary Club and an active community volunteer. He was an educator for 30 years and held several positions within Township High School Dist. 214, including as an assistant principal.

Reid was known for continually investigating new and creative ways to improve Buffalo Grove and the quality of life for all residents.

“Service above self is one of the core principles of Rotary, and Bill Reid was a shining example of someone who personified that motto,” Committee Chair Ryan Risinger said. “We as a club are asking members of the Buffalo Grove community to nominate an individual who they believe has a true passion and commitment to the village; someone who deserves to be recognized.”

Individuals must submit nominations by June 1. Send or deliver a completed form to: Executive Director, 530 Bernard Dr., Buffalo Grove, Illinois 60089, Attn: Ryan Risinger, committee chairperson, or via email to ryan@bgparks.org. Nominators should attach a written summary of the nominee’s Buffalo Grove community service activities, and any other supporting letters, statements or documentation to support the nomination. Nominators are also asked to secure a written “second” to the nomination prior to submitting the form, which can be found at bgrotary.org.

The award recognition will include a public ceremony with a presentation of a recognition plaque, a $500 contribution to the charity of the award recipient’s choice in the recipient’s name, and a $500 contribution in the recipient’s name to The Rotary Foundation. The recipient’s name will also be inscribed on the permanent award recognition plaque located in Buffalo Grove Village Hall.

The presentation of the award is tentatively scheduled to occur at the July 4th Rotary Village Green Concert, but will be based on the recipient’s availability.
