Brickton Art Center Hopes To Relocate In September

During an art party, children apply their creativity at Brickton Art Center on Busse Highway.

More than two decades after its founding, Brickton Art Center will relocate this fall to the Centennial Activity Center, 100 S. Western Ave., Park Ridge.

The late Pamela Whamond established the center in 1997 to bring more fine art to Park Ridge. Class sizes have continued to grow at Brickton’s current home at 306 Busse Hwy.

“Fall is less disruptive in terms of scheduling programs,” said Alyssa Harris, the center’s transition coordinator. “We offer three or four (programs) per day, six days a week for children and adult art classes in the evening.”

Harris said while they still do not have a main room to use at the Centennial Activity Center, they do have four closets for supplies.

Moving to the new location will allow the staff of 15 to focus on teaching without the burden of maintaining the facility. Classes should begin in September.

“We’ll scale back some programs, and add on what’s needed. There will be more opportunity to be creative and part of what’s going on,” Harris said.
