Members of the Arlington Heights Police Dept. are investigating the discovery of a body Thursday afternoon at the northwest corner of Northwest Highway and Arlington Heights Road.

The identity of the person was not immediately known. Motorists were asked to remain away from the area, if possible, during the evening rush hour.

Police said they received a 911 call at approximately 3:30 p.m. reporting an individual down. Officers arrived and found a 65-year-old male unresponsive and deceased. There was no preliminary indication of foul play, police said. The manner of death appeared to be natural, according to police, and there was no risk of danger to the community.

By approximately 5:45 p.m., paramedics were seen loading the body onto a stretcher and into an Arlington Heights ambulance. According to witnesses at the scene, the victim may have been homeless, however, any details had yet to be confirmed with authorities. The activity attracted crowds of onlookers along both sides of Northwest Highway just west of Arlington Heights Road.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office was also conducting a death investigation, per standard procedure.

The investigation is ongoing. Check back for updates.
