Following the retirement of Robin Ward after 32 years as Arlington Heights’ in-house counsel, the town has named its next village attorney.

On Monday night, village trustees voted unanimously to appoint Hart Passman of Elrod Friedman as village attorney. Passman is an experienced village attorney who also represents Kenilworth and assists in the representation of Highland Park and Lincolnwood. Additionally, he serves as the chair of the Home Rule Attorneys Committee for the Illinois Municipal League.

Elrod Friedman formed earlier this year after a group of 10 attorneys left Holland & Knight, the firm that had represented Arlington Heights for many years while Jack Siegel was village attorney. Siegel died in 2014 after 53 years with Arlington Heights, and since then Arlington Heights had elevated Ward’s role and participation in village board meetings.

Ward announced in September that she would retire from the village.
