AH Lifeguards Take Home Gold, Silver, Bronze In Competition

Teams from Pioneer and Recreation parks in Arlington Heights took home an array of awards at the Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA) Aquatics Committee’s annual Lifeguard Games held July 10.

The two first-place awards were two-person rescue (Asher Ginnodo, Mili Meredith and Connie Vuong) and cold weather relay (Emily Walters, Maggie Goodwin, Anna Kreie and Owen Moran).

The second-place award for unconscious guest rescue (for men) went to Sam Gabriel.

The third-place awards were cold weather relay (Sam Gabriel, Mili Meredith, Asher Ginnodo, Danielle McCallister); wipeout relay (Sam Gabriel, Mili Meredith, Asher Ginnodo, Danielle McCallister); and lifeguard challenge relay (Colleen Doyle, Natalia Dmitruk, Anthony Anagnostopoulos, Kate Mallek).

“We are proud of the teams and recognize their achievements in helping to showcase our commitment to keeping our community safe in and around the water,” said Aquatics Supervisor Lindsey Robertson.

A total of 36 teams consisting of four lifeguards each competed against each other in fitness challenges, teamwork, in-pool scenarios and were tested on general life-guarding skills. There were teams from 15 agencies participated.

The winning Arlington Heights lifeguards were recognized at an open house Tuesday, Aug. 13.
