Two days after announcing he was running for Niles village trustee with the Citizens for Niles Party slate, former Niles Deputy Police Chief Vince Genualdi announced he will not run after all.

“I am notifying you that I have withdrawn my candidacy for the village of Niles trustee, due to a possible conflict with my place of employment,” Genualdi said in a written statement Wednesday. “I would like to thank you and my supporters, and wish all the candidates the best of luck in continuing to make the village of Niles a great place to live and raise a family.”

The Citizens for Niles Party includes candidates Sherry Bailey-Schutt, Pradip Pandya, and Marko Ratic.

The Citizens for Niles slate will face the Vision for Niles slate, backed by Niles Mayor George Alpogianis, of village trustees, former police chief Dean Strzelecki, Craig Niedermaier,  Niles Plan Commissioner Morgan Dubiel and Marryann Warda.

“I’ve known Vince and his family for a very long time. I respect his decision to drop out of the race, and I can understand why he did,” Alpogianis told the Journal. “He was kind enough to call and let me know and I wish him luck.”

Reporters were unable to immediately reach the remaining members of the Citizens for Niles slate for comment Wednesday.
