Prospect Heights Approves Annexation

Aldermen Monday night (June 24) approved an ordinance annexing part of the Lutheran Church Charities (LCC) property, consolidating all of the property within Prospect Heights.

The LCC property, made up of three connecting lots on Milwaukee Avenue just south of the River Road intersection, is home to the K-9 Comfort Dogs. This program trains golden retrievers for disaster and crisis response and dispatches them around the country to serve different communities.

The annexation will not result in any changes to the existing land or buildings, but according to Prospect Heights Director of Building and Development Dan Peterson, LCC has discussed future plans for new equipment storage and maintenance buildings that would allow it to better serve the community and nation in times of need.

With the council’s approval of the annexation, by default the property will be classified as R1 residential zoning district.

LCC has submitted an application to have all three lots rezoned to B3 commercial, wholesale and general services zoning district.

The Prospect Heights Plan/Zoning Board of Appeals will conduct a public hearing on the rezoning application on Thursday, June 27, before making its recommendation to city council.
