Palatine Widening Plans Shape Up

By Thanksgiving, Palatine village staff expects Palatine Road between Smith Street and Northwest Highway in the downtown area to be back to a driving surface condition, with any remaining roadwork to be completed by spring 2011.

The work, expected to begin sometime in June, will consist of widening, reconstruction, and railroad crossing reconstructions. Finished pavement will be asphalt with new roadway lighting on the corridor. Sidewalks will have brick accents in the areas west of the Union Pacific Railroad. Also, new storm sewer, traffic signal modernization and interconnection are included.

Two-way traffic is being maintained between Smith Street and Plum Grove Road during construction. From Plum Grove to Northwest Highway, traffic will be one-way eastbound only to accommodate the railroad's crossing reconstruction and relating warning/gate equipment.
