Wheeling Twp. Waits On Social Funding Decision
Wheeling Township trustees deferred discussion about funding social service agencies and agreed to assistance from the highway department for a bus purchase.
The board was to discuss the funding at its meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 26. Agencies made presentations to the board and a citizens' committee. Newly seated collector Ken Jochum was part of that committee, explained Township Administrator Jo Stellato.
"We asked Ken to go back to the committee and compile their thoughts for the next meeting," she said.
Stellato also explained an intergovernmental agreement for the purchase of a bus. The board previously accepted a bid for a replacement bus for transporting senior citizens and disabled residents. The township will trade in a bus with more than 130,000 miles on it for a new one from Midwest Transit for a price of $41,065.
The agreement is between the General Town Fund and the Road District, she said. The township's Road District decided to assist in the purchase of the bus. As it is a separate taxing body, an official intergovernmental agreement is needed to allow the monetary assistance.
Wheeling Township includes parts of Prospect Hts., Wheeling, Arlington Hts., Mt. Prospect, Buffalo Grove and small portions of Des Plaines, Northbrook and Rolling Meadows.
