Village Manager Won't Take Raise

By RICHARD MAYER Assistant Managing Editor

Buffalo Grove Village Manager Bill Brimm volunteered not to receive a salary increase for the second straight year.

"I just thought that a person in my position must lead by example and I can't ask anyone to do something that I can't do myself," said Brimm.

The raise would have gone into effect May 1, 2010.

Even though Brimm decided not to receive a pay increase from his $168,920 annual salary, other village staff members did receive pay increases effective Jan. 1.

Brimm said he never saw a dollar amount that was being proposed by village board members and had to reinforce the idea on a couple occasions that he didn't want a raise this year.

His current salary that began May 1, 2008 will continue through Apr. 30, 2011.

Brimm was honored two years ago for 30 years of service to the community. His first day on the job was Jan. 16, 1978 as director of Finance and Administrative Service.

Twenty-one years later, Brimm was promoted to deputy village manager, and in 2006, was appointed to village manager replacing Bill Balling.

Some of Brimm's responsibilities include managing daily operations of the village, keeping the village board informed on matters of policy and legislation that relate to board responsibility, preparing the annual budget, managing the departments of the village, and coordinating the financial and fiscal affairs of the village.

Brimm said it has been a "privilege" to be able to actively participate since 1978 in building that community. He said he hopes the work he and other staff members have done in the past, and will do in the future, will enhance the village.
