1 Arrest In Liquor Sting
As part of a liquor sting conducted four times a year to ensure local establishments are not serving alcohol to minors, the Buffalo Grove Police Dept. made one arrest out of 40 inspections on Jan. 6.
Police arrested Juan Santos-Reyes, 41 of the 900 block of Prague Ave. in Buffalo Grove, an employee of Mi Mexico Restaurant, 220 N. Milwaukee Ave.
"We set up subjects under 21 to go in and ask for alcohol," said Cmdr. Steve Husak. "If they are denied, we leave. If they are given alcohol, then they go outside and tell the officer, who then goes inside and arrests that individual."
Owner Juan Barajas met with Village President and Liquor Commissioner Elliott Hartstein on Tuesday, Jan. 19 and was given the opportunity to pay a $1,000 fine or sell no alcohol two weekends spanning Friday through Sunday. A decision has not yet been made.
Husak said these types of stings are usually conducted during periods when the chances are greater for minors to obtain alcohol, such as around the holiday season, homecoming, prom and graduation.
