AH Chamber To Local Businesses: Stay Hungry

Expect to hear a lot of "Eye of the Tiger" during the Arlington Hts. Chamber of Commerce Installation Dinner on Thursday, Jan. 21.  That's because everyone will be talking about boxing the bad economy, according to Executive Director Jon Ridler.

"The theme for the dinner is fighting on through: your business and the economy," Ridler said.

It's the first time in the dinner's 63-year history that there will be a theme. Ridler said they chose the fighting theme to recognize the importance of helping businesses during these tough economic times and to highlight some of the success stories from 2009. The fact that many struggling businesses remain open is a success in and of itself, according to Ridler.

"We need to champion that," he said.

Outgoing President David Becker and President Elect Joe Favia will address chamber members during the dinner. Ridler said they will likely outline goals for 2010 and talk about expanding My Town Arlington Hts., a coupon program through the chamber website that launched in October 2009.

The dinner will also honor businesses nominated for awards in four different categories; business of the year, emerging business of the year, business leader of the year, and business volunteer of the year.

The 2009 winner for business of the year was Brian Properties, a Realtor company.

Becker will also present the President's Award to Jack Macholl, of Wisdom Bridge Marketing, and Tim Corrigan, of Corrigan Consulting.

"These two people are the ones that really stepped up, volunteered their expertise and time to develop the My Town program," Ridler said.

The Installation Dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Doubletree Hotel, 75 W. Algonquin Rd., in Arlington Hts.
