Endorsements Flow To Goslin
By BOBBY CHILVER Journal & Topics Reporter
Cook County's 14th Dist. Commissioner incumbent Gregg Goslin has been racking up the endorsements and says he feels good heading into next month's primary election against Republican challenger Pat O'Donoghue.
Goslin, a Glenview resident, was first elected to the 14th Dist. post in 1998 and re-elected in 2002 and 2006. He hasn't taken on a Republican primary challenger since that first election but he is not taking the challenge lightly.
"I do take it seriously," he said. "This is a full blown campaign." Goslin said he and volunteers have been going to door-to-door across the district and are planning to send out a few more mailings in the coming weeks.
"I feel good about (the election) but I don't get confident," he said. "I'm just doing all the things your suppose to."
And it surely doesn't hurt to get the support he has, too. Goslin has been endorsed by Barrington, Palatine, Wheeling, Northfield and Niles Township Republican organizations.
"You don't get those endorsements if your not doing your job," Goslin said.
His opponent, Northfield resident Pat O'Donoghue has said there is a need for change in Cook County. It may be one area the two agree on.
"There are some major things that need to be done," Goslin said. He pointed to repealing the recent sales tax increase and reducing spending through changes in personnel and the pension system.
Goslin, 56, was previously a member of the Illinois House of Representatives and supervisor of Northfield Township.
O'Donoghue, 29, works as an analyst for the city of Waukegan and previously ran for Northfield Township trustee.
The 14th Dist. stretches across northern Cook County and serves portions of Arlington Hts., Buffalo Grove, Glenview, Northbrook, Palatine, Prospect Hts., Rolling Meadows and Wheeling in the Journal-area.
